Haven t been there for years and was expecting a crispy beer battered fish fry. What my wife and I got in return was a horrendous, salty fish fry that was disgusting..Service was very good but the fish was terrible.Only two customers there for a Friday lunch which was surprising .Went down the road and Rodneys was packed. They must know something we didn t know.Last visit for us at Hoaks
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!! The place is falling apart, smells bad and there is food all over walls and they are way over priced! Went there for the first time for a fish fry. Our party of 7 was seated right away. We walked up to the second level and the handrail was sticky from old food/grease. We sat down and ordered our drinks. 2 of the water glasses had lip marks on them as they were not clean. One of my family members ordered a diet pop which they served in a 12 ounce plastic dixie cup. He took one drink and their syrup was out. Just one problem after another... The menu was WAY TOO OVERPRICED and there was no t much to choose from. They wanted $11.59 for a fish fry; $11.59!!! I could see paying that much if the place was clean, updated and service was good, but not there!!! Our table of 7 just up and left before the waitress brought back the drinks that were messed up... DISGUSTING place and we will never step foot in there again!!
HORRIBLE. After having Hoak's highly recommended while traveling for business, and wanting a good meal, I decided to give it a try. I am not a picky eater, I just got out of the Marines a few months ago and have had to eat some bad food on more than one occasion. But this was worse than an expired MRE. I ordered the Surf-and-Turf (steak and lobster tail), and was extremely disappointed to find the lobster resembled the texture of rubber and lacked flavor to the extreme. And the steak, which I ordered medium rare, tasted like the ashes from the bottom of a fire pit. I almost had to put ketchup on both just to get it down. But to top it all off I was hammered with a $74 bill. I chased the waitress down, sure she had made a mistake, and asked if the price I was being charged was correct. Even the hostess laughed assuming I was over charged. The menu states the price varies according to market price, which makes sense. But unless my lobster was flown from the ocean minutes after being caught I don't understand the outrageous price. If I am going to pay that price for a meal i want to eat one of the best meals I have ever had. Do yourself a favor, Save the money and eat at Mighty Taco. While it may not be the best for you, it has flavor and cost a fraction of the price. $74 dollars can feed me for a week. I feel like I have been robbed. The only positive note was the service was friendly and fast. Who knows, maybe I just got a bad plate of food. The parking lot was full after all so they must cook at least something worth the price.
went there saturday sept 11th 2010. the server was horrendous. pushy, in a hurry, and just plain rude. there seafood and fish plates were something like what you'd get @ long john silver's only alot more expensive. i had filet mignon(or what was supposed to be filet). undercooked, very bland,it was like fake meat. long story short...stay away from this place. oh and it smells like urinal cakes throughout the entire place. from the front door to the back patio. what a dump
The food is amazing!! Best fish fry in town by far! I also LOVE the cajun baked shrimp and scallops. Also, you have to try the stuffed peppers or stuffed mushrooms! I always crave their food and it never disappoints. The people are so nice.. especially the waitress Bridget and the bartender Kevin
