Cortese Restaurant was founded in 1947 by Angeline Cortese and her sons, James and Nathan. A third son, Angelo, who more than his brothers, dreamed of running a restaurant, was killed while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. With the help of their father Corrado and sister Rita, Jimmy, Nate, and their Mom built a reputation for consistently excellent food, served in a warm friendly atmosphere. In continuing our family's tradition, we strive to make every meal memorable, and every customer satisfied.
Visiting from upstate and craving a good Italian meal, I searched for a restaurant that offered a variety of my favorite dishes. I found the selection well rounded, the food excellent and the service friendly and prompt. The shrimp scampi was full of flavor with nicely cooked shrimp, sauce superb. The eggplant parm was lightly breaded , allowing the good tasting eggplant to come through. Sauce again very good. Brother said the linguine alfrado was very good, with cream sauce not too heavy not too light. Portion size good for the price. Husbands scallops were tender , plentiful and sauce very good. Italian salad dressing better than any I have ever had. We'd definitely go again. Oh yes, please put an olive in the Bloody Mary next time.
I have been a life-long patron of Cortese. It houses the most friendly staff and has the most unique and delicious pizza and food I have ever had. Granted, the dinning room can be crowded at times and you may have to wait a short stint for a table but believe me IT'S WORTH THE WAIT.
GREAT food! Great service! GREAT people who run it!
It is truely the BEST Italian restaurant in the BC area!
Not just for Pizza(although its very good too!)
I eat at Cortese every Thursday for lunch. The entree salads are VERY good, as are there steaks, and In my opinion they serve the BEST french fries in town too!
They are also the place we go for special dates!
Around here you just cant beat Cortese!LOVE IT!
....the pizza here was fabulous. A nice twist in dough texture, sauce and a balance of cheeses. Though it was pricey. Since then I have heard it has gone down hill. Very sorry to see that because they were one of few east of Endicott [the first town west of NYC where you will find really good, authentic Italian food in more than 10 restaurants]. And by the way, Sharkey's, it was the Iacovelli's of Endicott that first published the recipe for spiedies. Endicott is the home of the Spiedie, still is.
Far beter Italian restaurants in this area - sauce leaves you lacking; meat almost always over or undercooked; service sub-par; prices too high and packed in like sardines. At these prices, I shouldn't have to be intimate with those dining at the table next to me.
