What an awful experience. The place was cold, we had to keep our jackets on during the meal.
A lukewarm cup of coffee did nothing to heat us up.
I'd been waiting all day for a good steak dinner. Ordered the 12 oz Strip for $24, cooked medium. Can you believe it was BURNED? I cut into it just to see how it looked, it was dried out. Nasty.
The person I was with had the smothered steak sandwich, ordered medium, and that arrived the same, dried out.
Sent it back, telling them if this is medium, I'd take very rare.
20 minutes later, I get a medium steak. Tough, chewy, NO Flavor whatsoever. What cheap cut of meat.
Couldn't even fill up on warm rolls since they were dry, also with no flavor.
Salad bar was bare minimum with bottled dressings.
Do not recommend this place AT ALL.
Came to Cooperstown for Labor Day weekend. Ate at the Pepper Mill the 1st night. Steaks were good but not great. Salad bar was small but very good home made dressings made it better.
Home made rolls were good.
Bought the extra add on steak sauces and they were not good. The horseradish was the best of a bad lot. We could not even tell the difference between the red wine reduction sauce and the peppercorn sauce. They were both undistinguishable from each other and way too thin.
Not bad but not great for a $100 meal(for 2)
For a restaurant featuring pretty pricey steak, the salad bar is dismal and the servers are dull. If you are seated in the vineroom, watch your head on the beams. Much better atmosphere and fare in other restaurants.
