I was not impressed with this place at all. My husband and I are from Texas and have a hard time finding Mexican food that even comes close to home. We went here because of the reviews on Yahoo but we thought is was not good. There was no seating, we paid $5.50 for a small basket of chips and mediocre salsa. The chili rellanos were aweful and it is hard to mess those up. I don't think the prices were very good either. $8 for quesadillas that don't even come with rice and beans. I don't think we will try it again. We were told by someone else to try Juanitas, we should have listened.
One of my housemates and I went to Alto Cinco a few nights ago. The atmosphere was warm. The food was great, and the service was also awesome. And...we live like 2 seconds from there, which is an added bonus. Bravo! Bravo! I would definitely go back!
This place is awsome; yet very small eat in enviroment. The food is fanominal! My favorite is the Tex-Mex Salad more than a pound of food! The owner gets up really early everyday to make fresh tortillas; which are a part of the salad. The taste will keep you comming back for more.
My wife and I love great Mexican food, but there is still no one who can touch Alto Cinco for freshness, flavor and ambience. It's funky University location makes for an interesting mix of patrons, and the food is always good. They have some of the best burritos (traditional or vegan) I've ever had. The jalapeno cornbread is like eating cake, it's so rich.
It was a great place to go when there was NO seating, so the small dining room seems like a massive improvement.
I've eaten at most mexican places around the Syracuse Area except for Taco Bell, (they don't count). Alto Cinco is the best of them all. The staff are the greatest, the food the freshest, and the portions are HUGE, Tom I'm telling ya, HUGE.
All kidding aside this is my girlfriend's and my favorite Mexican place of all in the Northeast Quadrant.
good food- not great service. Had a big lunch to provide w/ vegans to feed. they wanted Alto, the person on the phone seemed very bothered by my large order, but made sure to tell me about the 18% that would be added on my bill for grat. and I still had to pick up.
If you want to trully experience the Westcott neighborhood you have to visit Alto Cinco. This is THE place to be, work or get take out from. Even hanging out front by the Westcott Cinema is a trip.
The food and staff is always great; Joanna knows how to treat people fairly and it shows in every aspect of this restaurant.
You have to try the catfish burrito or any of the specials, you won't be dissappointed!
