I Have eaten in BBQ restaurants all across America. I am VERY partial to Kansas City style Barbecue, which empahsizes beef over pork and allways has sauce on the meat. Oh for a good bite of Strutin' Gates BBQ.....
But back to the Dinosaur. Everyone I have talked to in Syracuse talk as if this is the best BBQ in the world. It is good barbecue but certainly not the best around. And the long wait for a table (my friend and I waited over 90 minutes for a table on a Saturday) was not justified by the quality of the food. Have they ever thought about relocating to a bigger facility?
Not to say that I wouldn't go back, but I will never wait more than 30 minutes for a table there ever again.
The legendary Dinosaur BBQ, this is a Syracuse icon. Can there be a better pulled pork sandwich??? I have a hard time with this one as I am not a big fan of Northern BBQ, I prefer southern Creole style with a dry vinegar type rub applied, but that’s another story, but I cannot deny the Dinosaur. No BBQ lover can. Whether it’s the New York State Fair, downtown, or a catered event these guys get it right every time. The pork just melts on your mouth the BBQ sauce is not intrusive at all and actually has that tangy sweet taste that you have to experience for yourself. If your still trying to decide whether or not to go. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you a fan of BBQ. Love it guys keep up the good work.

oh, the best! Their steak might be is a little dry, and the wait is insane, but it's worth it! Their menu has a variety of foods. But their cheesecake is close to my heart, as I am sure is close to yours too.
Ohhh, where to begin... This is some awesome BBQ! I cannot wait til' I'm back in NY so I can stop by there again! I don't care how long you have to wait, which is usually quite long on the weekends! It's worth waiting in line and the wait staff are cool chicks with attitude! DO NOT leave NY without stopping by this place for some pulled pork BBQ!
When I first moved to the Syracuse area from the midwest, the one resturant I kept hearing everyone talking about was the Dinosaur BBQ. After trying for the first time I was not disappointed at all. Now I do not know much about the resturant business and stuff, but this is the one place I can I was satisfied and if anything, you should atleast try it. Im not saying its the best BBQ, the best ribs, the best anything in thte world because to be honest I have no clue to back that up nor does most people. What I can say is this place is just fun!!
-The live music is great (even if your not a blues fan like myself), it adds to the atmosphere.
-The service is fun and professional. Always with a smile and whatever you need.
-The beer is always cold and they have just about anything you want. Also if you cant find a seat at the bar then you can socialize by standing around the resturant with others or outside on the sidewalk.
-The food again I believe is perfect in my opinion, especially the sauce. Always hot, plenty of food and the price isnt bad at all.
-The wait would be the only negative thing I can come up with, but if your looking to mingle with others in a fun/ bar atmosphere then you'll have plenty of time and fun to do so.
-The crowd, all types of people show up. You'll bump elbows with business type, biker type, young college type, or just regular white collar family type.
***Over all this place is fun and a good place to eat. If our looking for fine dinning and or going in expecting the worlds greatest food then your going to miss everything and leave unhappy. Like I said its a fun overall place with cold beer, good music, and plenty of conversations.....
Great food awesome waitresses live music real blues / moto decor love the sied cucumber tomato salad mashed potatos the brisket is special this is what you call a joint syracuse soen't have much , but it has the Dinosaur!!!!!! Love it
Although the food was decent and the beer was cold I cant see what is so special about Dinosaur that I had to wait almost 1 1/2 hrs to get in?!?!?
Parking is at a premium and I felt rushed throughout my meal.
Was there on 11/23. I bought into the hype. Having grown up in the south and always searching for good BBQ, I thought I would give Dinosaur a try. Boring, almost bland, pulled pork. The ribs were just OK. Chicken was juicy, but not much flavor. Corn bread could have been almost anything - tasteless. Coleslaw was below average. The best thing about the meal was the pickle. Oh, the sweet iced tea was good. Easy to find, not much parking. I won't be back.
