Great Weekend Getaway
We went here for our 18th wedding anniversary, and have already planned on a return visit. The Inn itself is not for the budget-conscious, but it is worth it.
Our room was in rustic motif with a gas fireplace, lighted king-sized bed, and the usual amenitites. On the night stand was a Bose CD player that was playing atmosphereic relaxing music when we entered. The rooms were sound-resistant (always a plus for romance!) and very cozy.
The restaurant and the food it served was of 5-star quality...everything was well-prepared and served in a timely fashion. The decor was elegant and the waitstaff friendly and prompt.
The Inn is on the north end of the village of Lake Placid, but the village is such that you could walk it's entire length with no problem. The sides of Main street are lined with curio shoppes, specialty stores, and brew pubs. We chose to have lunch at one called the Adirondack Steak And Seafood, and it was so good, we visited it twice more during our trip.
The food (mostly pub-style for lunch, with a large selection for dinners) was very good, as were the home-brewed ales. In fact, you could spend an enjoyable evening just walking from pub to pub, trying their brews. I had several different ones, and all of them were expertly crafted.
The Inn had a small cafe on the lake's edge which we frequented for our nightcaps before turning in. It was a loud, fun, warm place that served all manner of cordials, coffees, and late night snacks.
There is still stuff I haven't mentioned, (like all of the Olympic-related stuff) but suffice it to say that my wife and I have already planned a return visit very soon, and later this summer, we are taking the entire family up there for a vacation.
