Very Nice Steak Restaurant, a little pricey
If you like steaks and salad bars, this is a really lovely restaurant. The ambience of the restaurant is very rustic, yet warm and elegant. The service is friendly. You won't find any haute cuisine here, or fancy display. This is more of a traditional steak house restaurant, old school.
There are fieldstone fireplaces in the back dining room and bar/lounge, and a beautiful garden room in the front. The foyer offers a toasty potbelly woodstove. The floors are rough-hewn pine. Bear paw prints mark the way to the salad bar, for those who may become disoriented by the layout of the dining rooms. Some of the desserts are inhumanly enormous, so be sure to ask your server about portion sizes before you make your choice.
Dinner prices are fairly expensive, but not out of line for this type of restaurant. It is WAY nicer than any of the chain steak houses, and suitable for special occasions. It is located on Rte. 9, in the heart of the Million Dollar Half Mile section of Lake George, where all the retail outlet stores are, a few miles south of Lake George Village. While it is conveniently located, it can be difficult to pull out onto Route 9 southbound during the annual Americade motorcycle rally, and during "peak" summer months.
Be sure to make reservations ahead of time. You may not be able to get a table without one, especially during peak season and during the holidays. The fact that it is sometimes tough to get in here speaks to the ambience and quality of food there, generally. The average diner would not scrutinize things quite as much as I do. I happen to be a gourmand, and therefore I would say their food batting average is about 85% great, and 15% needs improvement.
