Phils Harvest Restaurant
Proprietor Phil Hart finished his military enlistment with the US Air Force in 1963. Upon his return he went to work for his father at Hart's Cafe (established in 1946 which is now shut down) to learn the restaurant business. After nine years working with his Dad it became evident to Phil that it was time to think of his future. He took his knowledge of the restaurant business and with a strong ambition started the format for the Harvest Restaurant with construction taking place in October 1971 and opening its doors in July 1972. All of Phil's personal resources were invested in this business by which he construed the name "Harvest" for "Hart Investment." The business has flourished since that time, adding size to the building in 1974. At this time the "second generation" of the Hart Family is tending to the daily and managment positions at the family restaurant paving the way for the next 37 years!
My friend (who lives in Colorado) recently bought me a sizeable gift card to this restuarant mistaking the name Phils Harvest for a restaurant close to me (in Philadelphia) called Harvest Grill. It was an honest mistake and I live 5 hours from there and do not foresee ever being in the area to use the gift card. She called them to explain the mistake and was told, Our policy is you cannot redeem a gift card for cash. I empathize but there isn t anything I can do for you. Sorry. This is incredibly unfair in my opinion - though I understand it was money earned and now being asked to give back - it s just bad practice and an unfriendly thing to do. Policy (especially for a family owned/run business) ALWAYS has a gray area for circumstances such as this. Clearly this family-owned restaurant doesn t care a lick about it s customers just taking their money.
Went for the first time May 3rd. Heard good things. Went early, few people there. Got seated by the garbage instead of more attractive seats available. Iced-tea and soda at $2.50 is ridiculous, so I had ice water. Free refills don t excuse overpricing. Food was good, but not enough for me, and at a top end price. However, let me say I was hungry and my hot roast beef sandwich was tasty, and I wanted more, so I believe the portion would satisfy most people. Almost $10.00, though, for that and some mediocre fries and coleslaw on the side, was top end. Not enough gravy, so ask for extra. Gravy strong tasting, and if I weren t as hungry as I was, that might have been an issue. My wife loved her hot turkey sandwich and gravy was just right. CHECK YOUR BILL....I had originally ordered iced-tea before I saw the price and changed to ice water...but I was charged for the iced tea anyway. Lots of people simply hand their credit card to the server when the bill comes and trust that it s correct, but too often I have been over-charged or billed for things I didn t receive, so I always check. I know it wasn t intentional but it shouldn t have happened. Other menu items looked good and I will go back. One trip with some disappointing aspects can be overlooked. Sometimes you have to learn about a place to know what to avoid and what is good. I ll try again, and ask for a better place to sit.

LIVE IN ILLINOIS, AND HAVE BEEN VISITING RELATIVES IN AREA FOR 20 YEARS. HAVE TO ALWAYS TRY THE HARVEST ON EACH VISIT. LAST MONTH HAD THE SPAG. AND MEATBALLS. THE MEAT BALLS WERE THE BEST I HAVE HAD. PIZZA WAS ALSO GREAT, A LOT OF MUSHROOMS BUT I LIKE THAT, SOMEWHAT CRUNCHY CRUST WHICH REALLY MAKES THE PIZZA, AND SAUCE GOOD. LOVE THE OPEN FACE ROAST BEEF TOO. WOULDN'T MISS IT WHEN I VISIT. GLAD YOU ARE THERE HARVEST.
Best restaurant around! Great service and price! Hugh portions that never leave me hungry. I love the mushrooms on the pizza, way better then the dried out fresh ones. They do have the fresh mushrooms as an option on the menu if you prefer. The Chef salad is big enough for 4 people to share! A must if you are in the area!!!!!! U wont be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, are you serious? We couldn't wait to try the pizza at Harvest-had heard wonderful things about it. So we finally had a chance to go tonight. It was the worst pizza I think I have ever had! I ordered one with meatballs and mushrooms. The meatballs were thinly shaved pieces, and they must have used 2 pounds of mushrooms on this thing-stems and all! The worst thing? They were CANNED! yucckkk! No self respecting restaurant should EVER use canned mushrooms vs fresh EVER! Too much sauce also. There are a lot of other pizza places around here that we feel are much better! You guys can have Harvest--we don't want 'em.
