Where to begin. We were out in Long Island for the weekend. Invited friends from Newport, RI and had someone come from Italy to visit. We were looking for a steak and really good bottle of wine. Had great friends, what a lovely night. Until we parked in front of this restaurant. Had we known that the Elbow Room was just another 10 minutes away we surely would have drove there. From the beginning, we wanted to sit outside. The hostess could not manage a table for us for 6 people, hostess made us a table for 7. She claimed we said 7, surely not the case. We started with a nice bottle of wine, well until the bottle was tasted by a few of us. It had been stored well above the 55 degree mark. It was a lovely taste of acid. Mind you it's just $88. They brought out white wine glasses to serve this bottle, when asked they said that was all they had. They had $250 bottle on the menu. You serve that type of bottle in a white wine glass. Come to find out the bottle are stored behind the bar where the temp could be up to who know's because the air conditioner doesn't run while the place is closed. We then wanted a bottle of Cakebread, they did not have. So the managere comes over and shows us a bottle of wine that's more expensive and tells us that he would take care of it if we didn't like it. Fine. We then order cheese and meats. Three slices of each come out for six of us. Are you kidding?? We are enjoying each other's company talking, laughing, telling jokes. Salad's come out, the beet salad is really good. We also order the pizza, really good. The food is being rushed so we ask our server not to order the steaks until our salad's were done. She said ok. OUR STEAKS WERE UNDER THE HEAT LAMP IN THE KITCHEN FOR AT LEAST A GOOD 20 MINUTES. When our steak came out they were over cooked and dry. The manager charged us 115$ for the bottle of wine that he recommended that sucked!!!! We are telling everyone we know not to go there.

The restaurant came recommended and we were happy to get reservations for two at 8pm. We were seated within ten minutes and had our appetizers in another fifteen minutes which were just okay. Then after that, we waited, waited, and waited - for a total of one hour and ten minutes! The entire food service seemed to be suspended as people just sat there with no food coming out of the kitchen. When it finally started again, people who were seated after us were served first. We asked to see chef owner Stephan Mazzella in order to get any kind of explanation. We waited another fifteen minutes at which point we were served something that looked sloppily shoved on the plate. How dare they try to pass that off as cuisine? We were absolutely disgusted at this point we threw down our napkins and left. The chef owner Stephan Mazzella never even came to talk to us. What a coward! Zagat rated? That makes me laugh. The wait staff on the other hand could do nothing about the situation and were great despite the circumstances. Infact, we were so disgusted we left more than half our bottle of $60 wine which the owner didn’t even have the decency to pick up the tab on. What an absolute horrendous experience. We just wanted a simple, quiet, romantic dinner (on my birthday no less) but that obviously was too much to ask for in this “Zagat-Rated eatery” which they boast with very public signs in poor taste. Interestingly enough, they don’t post the ratings. I do not recommend this place at all.
