Rangmahal Indian Cuisine
Rangmahal has been family owned and operated since 1995. We have strived to create the best Indian Cuisine on Long Island, using a fine tapestry of aromas and spices by extracting the essence of fine taste. Chef Arun Verma creates a true labor of love and pride in blending traditional Indian dishes and spices to create a medley of sweet- savory flavors. Chef Arun has had over 3 decades of experience. Working at 5 star Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi and continuing at the Vikram Hotel, Chef Arun has used his hospitality background and culinary expertise to bring an exemplary and exhilarating dining experience for your taste buds. The name Rangmahal comes from the ancient kingdoms of India, where a King would have many "Mahals" or palaces. Rangmahal, meaning "Palace of Color," was the King"s realm of bountiful food, dance, drink and relaxation. This restaurant, its namesake, has attempted to create that same tranquil and enjoyable atmosphere with a menu that caters to all tastes.
OK, where do I start??? Well, one star for the tasty food, I have to give them that...and that s about it...I understand that we are all suffering from the economy and we have to try to save, work together to make it through these tough times but.....I am not willing to pay for food that is overly priced especially when the vegetable samosas smelled and tasted like they were on the brink of being spoiled...the mussels (that actually had a delicious mango sauce) hardly opened when cooked and tore apart when we pried them open (yes, a sign of not - so - fresh mussels). Then there was so much sauce to make the dishes look like a lot but there was hardly any meat or vegetables in the dishes...they didn t even give us enough rice for one when there was two of us that ordered enough for four (they wanted to charge more for extra rice!!! (but was kind enough to make it complimentary ). Then there was the issue of being charged too much on top of the high prices....Supposedly the stickers of the updated prices were peeled off by someone when I brought it to their attention...well, excuse me, but I am not one to try to cheat you for $3.00 when I ordered the works that came out to over $64.00 (not including the generous tip of $10.00 that I gave them anyway)!!! I think, if you ask me, they are trying to scam you into ordering more cause it seems cheaper and then charge the higher prices that are on another menu that has the higher priced stickers so they can prove their point because it all seemed too rehearsed for me. Most people would not see it or not say something cause it is only a dollar or two. But, if you read the other reviews, you will find that I am not the only one that this has happened to... Well, graciously, they said they would honor the price difference but when I got my change back, there was no difference...at this point, I have had enough with the pushy waitress (who I think is one of the owners) and how she hurried over to see how much tip I left as I was leaving!!! To give them credit, the service was not bad but I am never going back...too bad because I thought I had found a new Indian restaurant that I could go to when I would get my Indian food cravings -which is about once a week!
I have been going to this place for 15 years and I loved them. But after tonight i will never go back!
I had a $25 gift certificate for Rangmahal and they ended up charging us more than what was listed on their menu! They did this for each item we ordered so they would make the $25 back. So it was like I didn't even use the gift certificate.
They are sneaky cheats and I advise people to not go there. And to top it all off, the food is not what it once used to be.
Have paid a lot less for better food. Dishes are in served in small portions but you will get more sauce than anything else. Food is overpriced and they charge you a lot more than the menu price. Waitress is pushy and not very friendly. They do not honor gift certificates giving lame excuses why they don't.
