I should have totally read the reviews on here before I went to this place. If I had, I would have never gone there – and nor should you!
I went in there to get a $10 pizza on a Wednesday night and a hero. The guy behind the counter made it seem as though he was doing me a favor for allowing me to buy food from him. He wasn’t welcoming at all – quite the contrary! He told me that they didn’t have any heros left. Uh, hello? What kind of pizza place doesn’t have heros available? Is this Kansas? This is New York – you can get a hero anywhere at any time!
So, I decided to order a calzone. The menu showed a calzone with ham and something else for $5.75. I told him that I wanted a calzone without the ham and for the ham to be substituted for spinach. He said, “What, should I just open one that I have here and add spinach to it?” I said, “Uh, no, make it fresh, like the pizza I am going to be waiting for.”
So, he charged me $18.21 and I paid, told him I would come back, and while I was out (waiting), I realized that $18.21 seemed like a lot for a $10 pizza and a calzone. So, when I got back, I asked him how much a calzone with spinach should be. He told me it should be like $4.95. So, I said, “How did you charge me $18.21?” He said, “Tax.” I said, “Tax on $15 is not over 3 dollars.” He said, “Oh, maybe it was another dollar for the spinach.” (You know, the spinach that was just a substitute for ham. How come he didn’t reduce the price when I removed the ham?) So, I said, “OK, $16 plus tax is not over $18.” So he said, “Oh, I guess you want me to get the receipt, huh?” I said, “Yeah, go do that.” Begrudgingly, he got me my receipt and he had charged me $6.75 for a spinach calzone!!!
What the hell is that? $6.75 for a calzone??? I guess everyone else in here is right – they overcharge you and they don’t seem to care that you even walk in to give them business and they don’t seem to care if you even come back to order again! No wonder the place was so dead on a summer night!
By the way, my wife said the pizza tasted like it came from Chuck E. Cheese and the calzone was so thin!
The service is beyond sub-par, the food is mediocre, at best, and they rip you off at whatever way they can! The place was really grimy and gross, and I will never, ever, ever set foot in that place again and never eat food from them anymore!
Do yourself a favor, drive like 1 minute in either direction and buy your Italian food from somewhere else – they don’t deserve your business!!!
Food is adequate if you are very specific with your order but the people that work there are miserable. They act as though they are doing you a favor when they serve you. Large woman behind the counter is a complete witch. Perhaps they don't realize that there are probably 10 other Italian places within 3 miles. I'll take my business elsewhere from now on.
The bosses wife is extremely rude! I simply requested a receipt for my purchase and she failed to give this to me. I stood there waiting for this while she decided to take the other customers orders. She rudely looked at me and said don't worry I'll get this to you while I ate. She had an attitude the entire time. After 10 minutes I walked up to the counter and got the receipt from another woman. If you don't like working with people then you shouldn't be in a customer service environment. I refuse to go back to this place to eat.
A lot of people commented on the owners wife, who serves a leadership role behind the counter and is typically the one customers getting take out pay. Yes, she has an attitude but, I think she's great!
As for the food... my folks and siblings love the pizza. I enjoy the food but, some of the chicken dishes (Chicken Alla Mama) have too much sauce and is difficult to get as take out. With this aside, the flavor of the food is good. The restaurant is always clean when I go there and they have some innovative slices.
I really enjoy their chicken night.
The biggest detractions are the crowd that shows up there to eat and its locaton - it's in a popular strip mall so when you get take out, it can be challenging because of all the traffic.
Excellent place to eat! Very large portions at a reasonable price, especially on 'pasta' night and chicken night. It can be a little tight for room but once your seated,it is worth the wait.Warning...don't fill up on the bread because you'll be taking home more than half of your meal.Good food, good price....now THAT'S ITALIAN!
Some of the best pizza on the island. I live in Queens, NY and try to visit Mama Angelina's every time I'm out in the area. I can't comment on the Italian dishes, but the pizza is excellent. Try the Rustica pizza. It's to die for. Prices are reasonable. Not the friendliest staff, but heck, it's a pizza shop.
