Peter Luger Steakhouse, New York

I was sooo disapointed this afternoon with my visit to Peter Lugers for lunch. The Great expectation of a gourmet meal, with no holds barred with accommadating guests was fully deflated. Upon deciding that my wife wished to have a filet mignon and I the, Tuesday special of Prime rib, we were told no filet mignon and that they were out of the Prime rib. Mind you , this is a Tuesday afternoon, 2 o clock to be exact. We settled on two Small Steaks @ $34 each. My wife asked for baked potatoe instead of French Fries and was told it was extra (bring it on). The steaks, which were tough, tasteless and chintzy at best,were as thin as can be. Something you might pick up at a supermarket. We had ceasar salad to start and an apple strudel with coffee to finish off the meal. The apple strudel was just OK and I had to ask for cream for my coffee as they only brought milk. Perhaps they are surviving on their Past Preformance . Not going back.

Last night, we headed from NJ to PL to celebrate a birthday. Reservations were made a couple of weeks ago for 4:45 p.m. for 7 people. Traffic on the Williamsburg Bridge was at a snail's pace that we called to let them know we were on the Williamsburg Bridge and would be there shortly. The woman who answered was unsympathetic and said that they would only hold the reservation for 15 minutes, otherwise, we might have to wait an hour for another table. Her arrogance and attitude put a bad taste in my mouth before we even arrived -- she was rude and insensitive and I was wondering if the whole staff was like her. She should either take lessons in customer service or not answer the phone at all. We arrived around 5:05 p.m. and fortunately, the table was still available and we still had to wait before they seated us. There wasn't much of a waiting line. The meal (steak, spinach, home fries) and service was outstanding. The whole Peter Luger experience would have been perfect except for that one person who picked up the telephone.

I really enjoyed Peter Luger I will not ever forget this place. A friend treated me and I finally experienced a true steak house that knows what they are doing and felt that is was perfect. I recommend Peter Luger to most of my circles and always get the same response. What Perfection is Steak! I couldn't agree more...

I went here for the first time 01/25/10, the food was decent the service was great but overall I've had better. The best thing about this place was the woman that I had dinner with. Truthfully speaking, she could make grass and fish oil taste like $100 steak. Not a bad place to go for a first date or any special occassion. thanks Peter & Luger for the memories!!

Terrible! Maybe I'm used to traditional steaks everywhere else in the world. This steak for the 3 of us tasted bland and nothing special at all. What's the hype over the steak sauce? Tastes like shrimp cocktail sauce. Steak, potatoes, tomato & onion appetizer, 3 beers, and 2 desserts........$238. Incredible!!!! I don't mind paying outrageous prices for outrageously good food. This was far from good steak. I will never go back again and wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Outback, here I come!!

We were soo excited to go here on a reccent trip to New York. We were gravely disappointed. Gamey porterhouse meat. Creamed spinach was bland. For three of us to eat $180.00. Fast service but the waitor didn't seem very interested in our table. Strangely we did like the steaksauce. We agreed we would have rather had steak from one of chain steakhouses back in Ohio. Save your money and go to Outback Steakhouse!!!

Peter Luger's time has past! The place is extremely dated and and in need of serious renovation. The hype about the food is all hype. While the food is good, it is nothing to write home about. If you are a fan of Ruth Chris or Flemings Steakhouses, you will be extremely disappointed. I would not discourage anyone from at least trying it out, however, I won't be back anytime soon.... Also, the ridiculous cash only policy is not very attractive either so be sure to load up at the ATM...!

I had a good time many years ago. I was with some big money guys in the sanitation business. I would not have been allowed without them. Dress code thing and all. I guess it is cool to feel special but it sucks when you can't always have a good time at a place. Food is good. Over priced?- Never for the beef if you are a beef fan. STEAK A+++ I had some fish- LOL drowned

I've eaten steaks around the globe and still when I come home, this place takes top place. It has not only consistently been excellent, but above and beyond other steakhouses. The steaks have the right ratio of marbling, and served traditionally. Go during the weekday to avoid crowds.
