Peter Luger's time has past! The place is extremely dated and and in need of serious renovation. The hype about the food is all hype. While the food is good, it is nothing to write home about. If you are a fan of Ruth Chris or Flemings Steakhouses, you will be extremely disappointed. I would not discourage anyone from at least trying it out, however, I won't be back anytime soon.... Also, the ridiculous cash only policy is not very attractive either so be sure to load up at the ATM...!
I get a tear in my eye everytime I hear negative reviews about this classic and heavenly steakhouse. I've been to almost every state in the country, along with about 15 different countries, and there isn't a steak or atmosphere in the world that compares to Peter Lugers Steakhouse. As far as price is concerned, the memorable ambiance in your mouth and insurmountable memories you'll have after each experience will not and should not have a price tag associated with it.
We once tried to make a reservation 2 months in advance of the date we were interested in and the jerk aswering the phone laughed into the phone and said you've got to be kidding and then proceeded to hang up on us. I would not recommend Luger's. They think they're the greatest. Go to Uncle Jack's in Bayside Queens and have a great time and less time waiting. There they treat you like you're something. Their steak sauce is also something else.
