I've eaten steaks around the globe and still when I come home, this place takes top place. It has not only consistently been excellent, but above and beyond other steakhouses. The steaks have the right ratio of marbling, and served traditionally. Go during the weekday to avoid crowds.
I went to Peter Luger's 2 weeks ago for the 1st time. In Chicago we have many fine steakhouses however PL was the BEST tasting steak I have ever had. The service was GREAT and the wait staff was very friendly. I can't wait to go again.
I have been to Peter Luger over 40 times (mainly the one in Great Neck, NY). It is simply the greatest steak house. After going to Peter Luger, there is a new standard set for your taste buds. Most other steak houses will taste disgusting compared to Luger's after your first visit to Luger's. They use the greatest cuts of meat, age them, and know the way to prepare the steak so that it practically melts in your mouth.
The people that gave Luger's a bad review on here simply do not know what they are talking about. What a joke, comparing a place in RI to Luger's. Shows what you know. Some people are so used to Outback Steakhouse and McDonald's meat that when they try the world class Peter Luger steak they do not know what to think.
I'd strongly recommend ordering the steak at Luger's rare, it is the best steak you will have guaranteed!
To the people that complain about the price: there is a reason why Peter Luger is more expensive than Outback or Brasserie. You're paying for the quality.
We once tried to make a reservation 2 months in advance of the date we were interested in and the jerk aswering the phone laughed into the phone and said you've got to be kidding and then proceeded to hang up on us. I would not recommend Luger's. They think they're the greatest. Go to Uncle Jack's in Bayside Queens and have a great time and less time waiting. There they treat you like you're something. Their steak sauce is also something else.
If Peter Lugar's is the best Steak in NYC, Then I need to open a steakhouse in NYC to show those new yorkers what a good steak is. If you like a steak that is burned on the outside and raw on the inside then it is the steak for you. Don't forget your cash ($300.00 for three people) because they only take cash. Also plan for a wait, mine was two hours in the middle of the week.... NOT WORTH IT!!!
