Junior's Restaurant & Bakery
World-renowned in regards to their cheesecakes, the original Junior's located in downtown Brooklyn has been serving old-school, no-frills fare for more than 50 years. The place is a throwback to the 50's too, with colorful and casual decor reminiscent of a diner. Everyone enjoys coming here, perhaps due to to the big burgers, blintzes and the amazing cheesecakes which can be ordered and shipped overnight anywhere in the states. Or if you can't make it to Brooklyn for one, there is also another location in Times Square.
Went to Juniors the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It will be my last time. Food was way overpriced, not good and the waitresses kept repeatedly bumping into us...we felt like we were in their way almost all the time. My friend had a grilled cheese, side dish of mac & cheese, chicken fingers for her daughter, iced tea, and french fries and her bill was $31 --before tip. What a rip off. My burger ($12)was good, but nothing to write home about. Instead of a bread basket they give you pickled red beets and the worst cole slaw I ever ate-- and I swear to you the red beets tasted like dirt. Trust me this place makes those chain restaurants look good.
I paid $50.00 for a dinner for my daughter and myself. It was terrible. I had shrimp parmesean. It tasted like it had ketchup on it. My daughter had the open roast beef which consisted of a ton of gravy. We both could only handle a couple of bites and had to leave. The waitress was nice and service good. Did not have to wait for a table in evening time. Large portions do not always translate into good tasing food.
This place is a good case of a landmark that just lives off of its name. The food and service is awful. It's over priced and certainly not woth the money. Cheesecake from the cheesecake factory is better than what they have anyway.. The bar is good though. I would recommend the bar any day of the week.
We went to Junior's in Midtown right after seeing a Brodway play. It was so good. Perfect location and food was great. The cheesecake is the best I have ever had in my life. Nothing like genuine New York cheesecake!
