Every bite is an experience at this Italian restaurant in Queens. The decor at Manducatis Restaurant may be ordinary, but the food is wonderful. There is fettucini with portobello mushrooms and fresh tomatoes, bruschetta di calamari, shrimp alla ida (sauteed in white wine) with pasta, and Mozzarella di Bufala Rolletini with roasted peppers. Linguine with Garlic Shrimp and Veal Lasagna are customer favorites. Cannoli, Biscotti or the Torta di Casa make excellent desserts. The restaurant also features a 300-bottle wine list.
On Saturday night, I, my wife and a good friend had a fantastic meal at this wonderful restaurant. The food, the service and night was just wonderful. I can' t say enough about these wonderful people who made our reentry into NYC, a total and complete success. I will be back many times.
What a disappointment!!!! Too much hype and too little to offer. I had guests from Europe and was embarrassed at the poor quality of service as well as the food. As if that was not bad enough, on exiting, the outside steps were dark and one of the guests fell on the steps. When the owner was advised, he did not even offer any hospitality or show any concern. For sure I will never go back nor recommend this place.
we were greeted warmly, seated at a nice table.after 10 min a watress came over.we ordered wine, bread came and it was actualy moldy.not a little but thruout the half loaf that was served.the wait staff was busy in other areas so after some time we were able to see her to tell her about the bread.she simply picked it up and left no words or apologies. some time later a busboy put another basket of bread on the table.we were there about 30 min the waitress came for our order, recited the specials as if it was a chore took our order, left and never came back to the table the rest of our stay.the busboys served the meal.the table was cleared.we got the check from the busboy.when we left, the man who greeted us when we came in held the door and said good night.we eat out at least 3 nights a week manducatis will not be on our list.
As an old Italian, I can say that the grilled pork was superb, as was the garlic shrimp. The red sauce needs a little work, but it may just be me, because it is my specialty. The service was not super because of so many Christmas parties going on, another testamony to food quality. A homey atmosphere and very pleasant wait-staff make this place special. The owner hovered the dining rooms, but in a way that lets you kno he loves the place.
This is the homey neighborhood Italian place you dream of, with a extremely well priced Italian wine list. Come here when you want a relaxing evening. Start with bufali di mozzarella with roast peppers, maybe have porkchops with vinegar peppers for a main course, and finish with a cannoli. The wine list is so broad, it's probably best just to ask Anthony for a recommendation. It takes time since the food is made to order.
