The Bird & Bottle Inn
With a long and rich history dating back prior to the American Revolution, The Bird & Bottle Inn in Garrison, New York is truly a Hudson Valley treasure. From the charming dining rooms where seasonal gourmet meals are served, to the warm and inviting guest rooms that have been meticulously restored, the Bird & Bottle is a favorite destination for diners and travelers seeking a unique dining or lodging experience. In 2004, Innkeeper Elaine Margolies purchased the inn and undertook a major restoration, modernizing it without changing its essential historic ambience. Todayac2s guests, whether for dinner or overnights, feel as though they have stepped back in time to experience a bit of 18th century America, with beamed ceilings, wide plank floors, wood-burning fireplaces and 18th century-style furnishings throughout. Since the beginning of 2009, Douglas Gardner has served as Executive Chef at The Bird & Bottle. Gardner is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute in New York City who puts his own creative twist on traditional dishes. Working with many tastes, textures and colors, he ensures diners a memorable dining experience. Chef Doug is ably assisted by Sous Chef Michael Kamphius.
One of the best meals i have ever had. From my app consisting of corn pudding with battered crispy scallop and a basil and tomato butter sauce. for my entree i ordered the scottish salmon, so fresh so hot and so much flavor. came with some sort of mango and black bean salad and a avocado vinnaigrette. Absolutely unreal and i will never forget this night. The chef also came out and was talking to a table down from us who clearly enjoyed their meal as they requested to talk to the chef. He never made it to our table to talk but he did give a smile. I have been to many fancy places with my husband and this by far TOPS ALL. Who ever hasnt eaten here must do so. i hope nothing changes at this old inn because it is just remarkable. Note to the chef you have a talent that people cannot learn, this cooking technique is all passion and you have a love for you job.
I had dinner there last night and had a wonderful evening, I was treated like family. The place is so cute and cozy it felt like being home with a great chef and great service. The bar was well stocked with lovely wines, the duck melted in my mouth and every bite of my dinner was like a tango on my taste buds. I highly recommend the bird and bottle inn and definitely will be back this summer.
The atomsphere is incredible! This is not just another restaurant, it is a true experience from the moment you drive up to the building to the moment you drive away. The interior is so warm and inviting and complemented by the beautiful grounds. I would not think twice about having a wedding or major function here. The service is top rate - staff extremely professional. Cannot say enough about the food! The chef Doug is so very talented. This meal will not soon be forgotten. There is plenty to choose from and with eight guests at one table - not one was disappointed. The price fixed menu ($48.00) was (in this diner's opinion) a steal. By the time dessert was served, I was full (but not too full to enjoy the warm chocolate bread pudding with whiskey sauce). YUM! I urge anyone who hasn't stopped by The Bird and Bottle Inn to take a ride and enjoy. I could go on, but you really need to experience this for yourself.
My husband surprised me with the most wonderful weekend! I had heard about The Bird & Bottle Inn from several of my friends, but had not had the opportunity to try it, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when we pulled up in front of this amazing historical building and learned that this was where we were going to spend our Valentine's weekend. From the minute we opened the door and were greated by friendly staff who helped us with whatever we needed including some suggestions of where to spend leisurely time until we checked out after two very enjoyable and relaxing days, we were treated like VIPs. As busy as it was on Saturday evening I couldn't help but notice that each table of guests was treated with the same attention to detail and courtesy. Our Valentine's dinner was amazing and beautifully presented. The combination of care and quality is hard to find but will keep us coming back as often as possible. Thank you to the staff for an unforgetable weekend!!!
What a wonderful experience! I live in Manhattan and decided to take advantage of this past three-day weekend and get out of the city. Due to the economy, I decided to not fly anywhere. Instead I opted to go online and search for places within a two-hour commute of my home. I happened upon a little B&B in nearby Garrison. Transportation was less than a daily cab ride ($21.00 round-trip on Metro-North). The General Manager, Andrea, was very gracious and arranged for one of her employees to pick me up from the train station. From my first encounter with the driver to the entire rest of the staff, everyone involved with the Bird and Bottle Inn made me feel like I was the most important person on the planet. My room was impeccably clean. The attention to detail so pronounced I felt as though I were in my grandmother’s home. I began my next morning sipping coffee in the gazebo surrounded by the beauty of the snow. No traffic, no noise, only the sound of the babbling brook which flows through the property and the occasional chirping of birds. My visit to the Bird and Bottle Inn was exactly the mini-vacation I needed. Oh, did I mention the food is fabulous?
Our son and his new bride had their wedding at the Bird & Bottle. Everything was top notch.
Thanks to Elaine and her staff for making their day one they will be telling their children about. What a romantic spot. The food was excellent. We stayed overnight and the rooms are so cozy, and waking up to enjoy the quietness and beauty of the grounds is something to be experienced.
The brunch was phenomenal and french toast to die for! We packed them in and Elaine and her staff again did not miss a beat.
If you want a wedding to remember or just a nice quiet weekend with great food, in a place that brings you back to long ago.
We recently had our daughter’s wedding at the Bird and Bottle Inn. It was absolutely fabulous. The ceremony was held outside on the bridge overlooking the stream. The day was beautiful, the service and the food were EXCELLENT. The tent was the perfect place to hold this occasion. Elaine, the proprieter, helped us immensely with all the details. Would recommend The Bird and Bottle Inn for any occasion.
