Stuffy and hot and the food and service really is in par with McDonald's. I cannot believe I actually heard the FRENCH owner say he can't stand Jews!! There was a table with it looked liked Jewish people and they were a little loud...but to say that!! SHAME ON HIM; I will never go back there because of this comment!!
many of the restaraunts nears times square are just not really that good imho..or perhaps i have just had bad experiences. today i was shown i was wrong by having an amazing lunch at osteria al doge - the grilled calamari is highly recommended and be sure to get the focaccia. i will definitely return..good business lunch locale as well. a bit $$$ ($40/person with no wine for lunch)
It's great for an after work get together or dinner before a show. Each time I went, the service was quick and the food was fabulous. The only thing was, I did ask for my food to go and didn't see it again after that. Besides that, I would recommend Osteria Al Doge to anyone looking for a nice romantic dinner with good prices and great food.
Waiter was exceptionally helpful on first visit but I take exception to be told what to tip, therefore he lost out. On the second visit the same week, to give it another chance. our waitress was efficient, as one would expect. but she attempted to rush our party by coming to table asking too often were we ready for next course when clearly we were not!Staff could use more training. Pleasant place but not what I would call exclusive as the staff seem to intimate.
It's one of those places that you consider hidden secrets. Excellent food, great service, charming decoration, and fair prices for what you get (although by no means cheap-- $20 and up for entrees). My wife and I loved it, and it will be at the top of our list for whenever we return to NYC. Although Chicago is still #1 for Italian food, this place is easily one of the best Italian restaurants we've been to. The carpaccio is fantastic!
