A Texan's perspective
By ,
I was hoping I wouldn't be disappointed but ultimately I was a little, The brisquet was good although the fat should have been trimmed. The sausage was disappointing as was the potato salad. The Memphis beans were O.K. We have a place here in Corpus Christi called Cotton's and it is one of the best in Texas. Sorry New York.

Great Place For BBQ
By ,
We just wanted a bite to eat before cocktails and had Virgils takeout because we did not want to take the time and eat-in our hotel was Broadway Millenium right across the street. Well, my room-mate woke from his sleep when we opened the food, it was soooo good we went back the next morning and took some back to Jersey with us. Hush-puppies, mashed taters, mac-cheese, BBQ chicken/ribs and catfish. Highly recommend this place wonderful atmosphere. If I could remember the waitress at the bar's name on 8/4 who took my order she was so sweet and friendly.

Good Food High Price...
By ,
But, what do you expect, it is NYC. The food was great, but the wait was long and the prices were steep.

PATHETIC
By ,
Over priced & Over rated. Many small local BBQ places that put this to shame around NJ. Not worth the money of the time.

When I visit NYC
By ,
When I end up in NYC, typically on business, I try to make it here. Luckily I am usually able to comp the meal because it is a little expensive, but the food is worth it. All the meat is done perfect over a wood fire, you haven't had BBQ until you've had it cook over a real wood pit. Their apps are fantastic as well. I agree with the other reviews, the wait can be awhile; however, they do have a bar. A similar place is R.U.B. somewhere on 23rd street.

Good but not BBQ
By ,
I liked the place. It had a comfortable ambiance good service and was priced commensurate with the location...just off Times Square. The meat was good but NOT what someone who is used to authentic wood smoked BBQ in any of it's several southern iterations would recognize. The sides were closer. I had Greens and Cheese grits and they were much more authentic to the taste. But what can you expect. I doubt that air quality laws or neighbors would tolerate real hickory smoke wafting through the city. The canned wood smoke smell greeting you at the front door is a nice touch.
