Amy Ruth Moore Bass was a native Alabamian. A devout Christian, she was the wife of Elijah Bass Sr., the mother of 10 children (7 daughters and 3 sons); and the grandmother of 12 grandchildren. Amy Ruth was also a farmer, a gardner, the world's best cook and a very friendly person. She was a long time member of Jerusalem AME Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and she sang in the church choir. Above all, Amy Ruth loved her family. She taught all of her children and grandchildren how to love each other, to look-out for one another, and to respect themselves as well as others. By her example, she also taught them how to love God and to put God first in all they did.
I thought the food was very good. I had waffles my bud had fried chicken. A bit greasy but what did you expect? Lots of celebs have eatn here. And don't be afraid of the neighborhood, it was very mellow and just a block away from the 116th st red line subway station. Go to the outdoor african market while UR there.
I have been to Amy Ruth's 3 times this month, and am not over it yet! It is the best soul food I've had in NYC, period. Sunday is their busiest day (went last week and waited outside for 45 minutes in the pouring rain) but it's worth it for the smothered chicken!
Roll over Silvia's, There is a new Soul food restraunt claiming the thrown. When I first walked into this restaraunt I started to salavate. Wonderful. The People were nice and the service prompt. But what caught me was the taste. Yummmmmmmmmmy. The Lemonaide was bangin, and I loved the mac and cheese. but what I get most are all the smothered Chicken and Pork chops.
This place is great! 2 thumbs way up. The place is a lil small though
I went here on a friends birthday celebration. When i first walked in i thought this place is really cramped but we were seated upstairs lots of room there and i had the catfish meal oh my lawd i was way more than satisfied with my meal i keep going on the down low cause eating that will give you some extra baggage in those places but it's worth it!! The prices are also reasonable!!!
