Description

Jean-Georges Vongerichten's critically acclaimed flagship offers the very best in fine dining. Awarded four stars by the New York Times and three Michelin stars, the restaurant features an exquisitely crafted menu blending French, American and Asian influences; the impeccable service, tableside preparations and floor-to-ceiling window views of Central Park and Columbus Circle all contribute to an unforgettable dining experience. Jean Georges offers a three course, $98 prix-fixe menu and two $148 six course tasting menus - a traditional tasting with signature dishes from Chef Vongerichten, and a seasonal tasting featuring fresh market ingredients. The prix-fixe and tastings are available Monday through Saturday for dinner. The restaurant also offers a terrific value with a two-course lunch menu for $38.

Yum, and some unusual flavors, especially in the appetizers. A noisy room, though, especially compared to the restaurant next door.

Service was excellent, but disappointed in the food which was good, but not exceptional as one would expect from Jean George. The plates were beautiful to behold, but essentially lacking flavor, except for one main course (the chicken on a bed of vegetables) which was rendered inedible by excessive salting.

While the food was good and a lunch deal is a reasonable value, I was shocked when a couple of minutes after we were seated we were asked to switch a table because our hostess made a mistake! I have never been asked to vacate a table once seated and I have to report that it is embarassing, you feel like you have done something wrong while being escorted to another table. Pretty unforgivable gaffe from a Michelin rated restaurant.

Breakfast on a weekday was not crowded. Surprised by decor which reminded us of a hotel restaurant, but the food was pitch perfect. Scrambled eggs and toast, egg white omelette, bacon. Simple dishes taken to another level. This is art. Decided to try one of Jean-Georges' other restaurants based on breakfast, and was not disappointed there either. Returned for drinks late night and was happy with the service, though the drinks were expensive.

I vote that Zagat separate the reviews for Nougatine bar and the main dining room which is really a completely different dining experience. Too many people mistakenly think that when dining in Nougatine they are actually dining in the main room. My numbers are for the main DR which can achieve some dining pleasure. Nougatine used to be better but quality has seriously fallen over the years and now is a bit funky in trying to be novel.

Had Reservations for 5:15 pm (Pre-Theater) but was made to wait to 5:30.Service was horrible, we was ignored most the time. Food was sub-standard I had food brought to my table that was suppose to be hot, but wasn't. May have been left sitting b/c everything was so slow. Barely made our show. Not at all worth it. Told the manager how disappointed I was in everything but they seemed uninterested. Recommend trying somewhere else. Not a 27..

It pains me to write a review about such a highly rated restaurant. 6/4/10, we celebrated my birthyday at Jean George today, the food was excellent as expected but as the restaurant filled the service priority shifted to caucasian customers. We had to ask to have our butter refilled while the table behind us were served, my wifes coffee was never refilled, I was given the bill and nevered offered an after dinner drink. SHAME ON YOU!

Spent my first week of unemployment money on the chefs tasting (dinner) and wine pairing... Do you think that is how uncle sam envisioned me spending it? Enjoyed every taste and every minute of it! The staff were wonderful and even substituted out one tasting I wasn't at all interested in....near perfection!
