Description

Since 1973, Gray's Papaya has been a New York favorite on the West Side. With two locations, one on Broadway and 72nd and this one on 6th Avenue and 8th St., both spots merit an obligatory visit, especially if you're broke. So what if it is just a hot dog joint? Founder Paul Gray (formerly from Papaya King), has fed thousands of New Yorkers, in addition to many celebrities and tourists. The special is two juicy dogs served with your choice of onions, kraut, mustard, ketchup and a foamy papaya drink for the recession special price of 5USD. The place is standing room only, but then again these dogs are meant to be eaten on-the-go.

Best after eats and cheap eats-Gray's Papaya on 72: Recession special is an awesome deal. Two hot dogs and a drink. I love the onion mix they put on the hot dogs. I usually don't eat hot dogs unless I am at a barbecue but I do get cravings for Gray's Papaya every now & then.

saw it on tv and had to go

This place was great! It was just like on the food network. Luckily i was able to go to NYC that summer after seeing the show. The hotdogs were cheap and had a wonderful taste and crispy skin. I got the papaya drink and it was amazing! the combo of the two were fantastic! My only regret was not getting 2+hotdogs and a super size drink!! They quickly took my order and i was back on the street. Highly recommended!

I'd go to NY just for Gray's Papaya!

I LOVED IT! Those little dogs are so tasty. And it's open 24 hours! Fast service, even when they're busy. You can't beat it. I went to the one on Broadway. There's no place to sit, but I walked back for another one the next day.

It's the best in all of NYC

This place is awesome. When my husband and I go in to the city the frist place we head for is Gray's Papaya. If you want a really New York City Hot dog, this is the place to go. Oh, and don't forget to get it w/ musterd and red onions.!

Just a hotdog.

Went there today after hearing about it from a friend and how it was famous and in a bunch of movies. 2 hotdogs and a drink for $3.50 wasn't worth it. They taste like regular hotdogs from any hotdog vendor in the city, the papaya drink wasn't any good either drank about 1/5 of it before chucking it. Next time I want a dog I'll just go to a corner vendor and get a $1.25 dog.

Best Hot Dogs

Great hot dogs! If there's one thing Tommy Meadows knows is hot dogs and Gray's Papaya is great! They have a selection that is the best in the city. Anyone with a taste for hot dogs will love Gray's.

Possibly the best food in the universe

I am a West Side native and have been eating at Gray's Papaya since it opened. The hot dogs and drinks have always been amazing. I've traveled the world, and nothing compares to their quality and value. Leave words like 'decor' and 'ambiance' to the French, because you won't find it here. This place is about good, fast, cheap eats. Just squeeze up to the counter (not too close - its hot) and order 'Two plain and a medium coconut', add mustard and ketchup then prepare for the best quick + cheap meal you can find on the planet.

Bad Service Experience

I heard this place was great, but once I got there it was a different story. The service was terrible, and I was surprised by the mediocre food. A great place for a value, but not a place to get a good meal and a cashier that knows about the english language and the american dollar.

Hot Dogs

Good price. Good dog. Tiny place with only a few places to sit and eat. Had to stand outside and eat on the sidewalk. Wasn't worth the walk. The dollar dogs out side Central Park tasted fine.

The Bestest of Food

You should buy these dogs. The hot dogs here are so good. Have one, yes you should. Put them in a bun. Eat them up with lightning speed. They fulfill your need.
