Description
Around since the 1950s, this dessert shop is a classic to older Upper East Side residents, who in turn have made their children fans of this incredibly popular spot. Lines in front of the door do not deter families from waiting for a table or ordering takeout dessert. Small, white circular tables are scattered throughout the room, past which fast moving waiters weave back and forth. The menu features American food such as hamburgers, but dessert is what you really want to come here for. Be sure to try the famous frozen hot chocolate.
Waited 2 hours...they only take reservations for 10% of the tables. Food and service was horrible...I ordered the meat loaf as a recommendation from our server and it came so burnt I couldn't cut into it. When I asked the server if this was typical of how they served it..the answer was 'yes'. I asked them to remove the plate and I ate off my husband's plate.
We ordered dessert, as we were told that was what they are known for...was not so great.
Service was terrible and slow...waited 45 minutes for food after we ordered. The line for the bathroom was a non-stop 5 person line...which we sat next to the bathroom.
We can check that off our bucket list...for those reading...skip it...not worth it!!
When I was a telephone repairman in NYC in the early 70's, I often escaped the sweltering summer heat by striding purposefully thru Serenditity's dining room and downstairs to the basement where there was a walk-in sit-down refrigerator. Ten minutes in the cooler and I was ready to finish my shift. I couldn't afford to eat there very often, but made a point of cabbing over from Carnegie Hall for dessert after a concert. It was always worth the trip!
First time visit (3/5/2011). Wait 1 hour and 45 min. Frozen Hot Chocolate (great), food (not so great), one time visit was good enough for me. Worth the long wait (no). $50.00 for two people to eat and (2) frozen hot chocolate plus $10.00 tip (waited forever for ketchup and had to get up and ask another server after several min.)
was in New York for vacation and Had to get to Serendipity... There was no wait so that was no problem. Got sat and then the issues began We told the server we were there for the Famous Frozen Hot Chocolate... He took our order brought us our desserts and that is the last we saw of him..He walked past us 4 (yes that's four) times and never said one word. After we were finished We finally got our check and went to pay to yet another Rude person. Cashier never said 1 word... Would I ever go back NO WAY!!!! I can say I have been there but would never return. Once is enough!!.. The decor is cool but not cool enough to go back
