The Tonic Bar is a fantastic restrobar located in the city of New York. Though a little on the loud side, with bold red and brown making up the interiors coupled with the blaring music from the plasma tv's; this place is a good spot to hang-out after work. The bar serves Italian, Cajun and American cuisine, while there is an extensive list for drinks which spans wines and interesting combinations of cocktails. Sports fans regularly throng the place, enjoying a game on the large screen plasma tv's and it is also a great place to host a party. Try to get in early on weekends, as the place is a popular haunt for tourists visiting Manhattan.
I run two charities. I went to have some food and drink at this place and thought it looked nice. I thought it might be a good place for an event with my charity for Katrina, which is where I now live. Wow, was I wrong. It was as the manager had never heard of New Orleans and could care a less. He was only interested in gauging us with prices and was very kurt. I'd never go back. I'd hope my people in New Orleans would act differently regarding a 9/11 Event.
All I want to do is bring in 60-100 people on a slow night, we'd pay for all our own drinks, but wanted some snack food tossed out. He said, they didn't give away anything but there were a hundred other bars around that would jump at the opportunity. He's right, I'm going across the street to Playwright Tavern - not as swanky, but very nice people. Good luck with Tonic, its the perfect name for a Sports Bar, yeah....
It is located right in Times Square, which influenced me to stop in one night. My hotel was also in Times Square so it was a good location for me and probably most other tourists. I like the sports bar atmosphere considering I am a big sports fan but unfortunately I didn't get to see all three floors. I only saw the main floor area where you would enter from the street. The prices seemed a little high to me I believe, but they weren't as high as some places in NYC can go.
Right in the heart of timesquare, tonic bar/met lounge is a good place if you want to catch the game over some really good food and drinks. The big screens are virtually everywhere except the bathroom. The 2nd and third floors are hosting indian parties. If thats your thing, then head up to the 2nd floor after watching the game, but not before you pay your $20.00.
The best thing about Tonic/Met lounge is the versatility. Having three different levels, it's a good place to have dinner, watch an important game, hang out with friends, or do all three at the same time. The wait staff is friendly and the location is great for a place to go right after seeing a movie or a Broadway show. It's not an intimate place, it can get loud after hours, but if you're looking for a fun time, this is one you can go to.
Friendly staff, this sports bar is always on top of all the best games playing. As a women, i don't feel intimidated by the games being played on any of their probably 10 TV's but the high ceilings make such a comfortable atmoshepere that you forget it's a sports bar, especially when the food has a great taste and a wonderful presentation..
