Brasserie 8 1/2, New York

We visit New York City at least once a year and each time make a point to have dinner at this restaurant. The price is reasonable; the food is absolutely delicious with many choices and beautifully presented. Perhaps most important, the staff are knowledgeable and pleasant. When you see the restaurant you might think the the wait staff will be pretentious but they are not and we've been here several times so ours isn't a one-time impression. The wine selection is thoughtful and reasonably priced. Can't wait to go there again.

Came upon this place by accident. Ambiance is absolutely superb. You feel like you're dining in a Bond movie. Food is exceptional at very reasonable prices. Service is friendly and efficient. Will recommend to all my friends as a NY hot spot. Worth every penny.

the atmosphere would be wonderful, if it weren't so stuffy. The gatekeeper at the top of the stairs could not be any more rude to our guests (we USED to go there to entertain business guests). The staff was not able to handle the number of people that were packed into the tables, so we waited & waited. I figured it would be great to order drinks, but they came after the food, over 20 minutes later. It really is a nice looking place, but as far as a functioning restaurant, we take our business elsewhere.

We had a fabulous time celebrating our daughter's 25th Birthday at Brunch yesterday. Everything about the experience was great. The way I was treated when making my phone reservations, the way we were welcomed by the employees, the way they made our family feel so special by their smiling and friendly demeanor..Even the guitarist was nice to us! I can' thank you enough for making my daughter's day so special. We felt like everyone was celebrating with us!!! The food was fantastic..largest shrimp coctail I've seen...everything was so fresh and tasty, perfectly prepared...And to top it off...The incredible cake. It was absolutely gorgeous. We took 11 pictures of it before we ate the flowers!!! Please thank the entire staff for making my daughter the happiest girl in New York City yesterday.....

everytime my co-workers and I celebrate something....like birthdays, mini-christmas parties, or just for the fun of going to a fancy restaurant, 8 1/2 is the place where we go. the food and the ambiance is great. the orange color main lobby/bar really catches your eye. and of course, if the places was featured in sex in the city, it must be a hot spot.

I went for my birthday, forgot to tell them I had my spend 50 take off 50 coupon(go to the Restaurant Associates website). They were still greacious and took it. The food is very good, dessert is amazing try the Bento box. I went to the rest room and the maitre d' walked in front of me and cut me off. Nothing that I would even notice and I laughed at it. The maitre d' sent me an amazing container of cookies. I was shocked, they were oh so tasty. It made me really want to go back and eat there again.

The food was great, the ambiance was great. I really liked the fact that they mixed modern architecture and atmosphere with the classical goodness of french cuisine.

Had dinner here a few times and have never been disappointed but was never blown away either. Think it's a decent value for NY so it's a good place to bring a friend or date. The bar area tends to get going later in the night as there's a nice sitting area/lounge feel right next to the dining area. Never really been there for drinks but probably worth checking out sometime. It's right below the Bank of America offices in Midtown so that may be the crowd that's there(?).
