Ellens Stardust Diner

Description

This restaurant offers authentic American fare in what is known as the vortex of tourist-friendly entertainment, Times Square. In the true style of diner hangouts, the menu features a little bit of everything from hamburgers and turkey sandwiches to Greek salads and falafel. Most diners really enjoy the homemade ice cream, and there are a number of freshly baked pastries from which to choose. Service is fast, so grab a bite if you are on the run. Another attraction is the singing waitstaff which keeps patrons entertained from start to finish.

We were looking for a place to go with our 6 and 3 year old. We loved the atmosphere, and our waitress. The kids were engaged the whole meal by all that was going on and our waitress had our daughter sing with her. The food was OK nothing to brag about, and a little over priced. We would go back again next time we are in New York. Great Family fun!!!

I am writing this review without easting at the diner. We called and told we could not have reservations so we were ok with that, when we got there they did not take names just pointed and asked how many we told them 12 and they said 10 to 15 minutes ok with that too. As we were waiting (with 2 children) we saw a large party go in before us even though we were there first. till waited then they came out and said they had 2 tables next to each oother we were ok with that, when we got inside they were not even close to each other and then we were told it would be a longer wait we had to leave we had a show to go to. I would not recommend going there (we went on Monday too) with a large group and was very diasppointed with them!!!

My family went to the stardust on thanksgiving day 2010 while in New York for our daughter to be in the parade. The waiter we had was vey rude. We orderd our dinks in which my wife and I aways order water. He was behind our back talking about people who order water. Than when he came back to the table My wife and I and our two daughters was going to share the plates as in the ones with two burgers on it. One for my wife and I and one for our daughters. He was very rude and told us he did not know where we came from but you do not share plates in New York. He was so rude we got up and left and went somewhere different to eat.

I went to Ellen's with my family and we all really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was vibrant and fun and the staff was very friendly. We really loved the live singing. I was pleasantly surprised that the waiters ad waitresses sang non stop the whole time we were there. Food was OK. Would definitely go back.

Don't bother attending this 50's style American cuisine restaurant. The proximity to the theater does not justify the price. While the service is entertaining, the food, from appetizers to desserts, is lacking (and that's putting it mildly). Spend your hard earned dollar and infinitely more important your time at another eating establishment.

I took my daughter to Stardust Diner for lunch before seeing a play. The service was excellent, the singing was a lot of fun, but the food was horrible. My daughter had chicken nuggets (four dinosaur-shaped nuggets like you can buy at the grocery store) and fries, and I had what the menu described as 'grilled cheese'. It tasted like dry toast (with an odd flavor...I wonder if this is how they use up the stale bread), with partially melted, now ice cold, processed cheese slices and some anemic tomato. The fries were good, if not overly plentiful. I wouldn't have minded the $30 bill if the food had been edible.

We planned a trip to NYC for my granddaughter's 10th birthday. My in laws had traveled from California to meet their great grand children and go into the city with us. I called Ellen's several days ahead and was told that they could easily accomodate our large group, but we should show up after lunch rush (around 2). I followed their instructions exactly. We were not all seated together, which meant 3 of us weren't even at the birthday girl's table. The food was undercooked, and very poor service. The singing was fantastic, but as we were tired, and hungry, more attention to our food and service would've been greatly appreciated.

Amazing Waiter!
By ,
I absolutely loved our waiter Todd. He was polite, timely with our orders, and was an amazing talent. He sang great songs and made our trip to NYC special. The hosts seemed to be stressed as there was a line out the door. But we were well taken care of and we had no complaints.
