Dock's is ridiculous. It's one of those New York restaurants that makes you hate New York restaurants. Subpar, overpriced food. Service without a pulse. I'd rather eat at Duane Reed's -- and that's a pharmacy. Avoid Dock's at all costs.
This is a new favorite seafood spot for me. The food and service are excellent and it's right outside the Midtown Tunnel for those in the Q-boro. Parking is fairly easy and the staff is friendly and accomodating.
The reviewer below is a Philistine. I'm suprised he can afford to go to Docks. If you want value dude - go to burger king. If you want super snappy service, go to Applebeas. Have fun, don't go to the continent.
I really like Docks. Lived in NYC for 15 years and still one of my favorites. BUT I have to admit I usually only go on Sun or Mon night for the New England Clam Bake. It's comes with Salad, Two Lobsters, Clams, Mussels, Corn, Potatoes, desert and coffee for like $32. It's a great deal and the lobsters are always amazing! So the other reveiwers not liking the other foods might be valid, but everyone I know that has gone to the Lobster Fest leaves very very happy and full. Service can be bad at times though.
If you like a raw bar, this is the best place to go if you're in mid-town. The Sunday raw bar brunch menu is fantastic, though for the other brunch items I think other restaurants fare better. But for lunch/dinner, I love Docks for their salads and their hamburger. I have always had excellent salads from the daily specials menu and the hamburger on the regular menu is one of the best, and for a good price for such a good burger-- good meat, cooked just how you order it. The quality of the fish specials varies, though generally it is good. The sauces are always good. One of my favorite dishes on the regulare menu is the fish 'n' chips with a substitute of sweet potato fries. As for dessert, well, anything and everything they have is delicious.
As for the service, it is always excellent. No complaints in 6 years of going there.
The ambiance is diverse, in that it can be romantic (booth seating & low lighting) or festive (open space & table seating) and fun (there is a TV on each side of the bar).
Everything is always clean, especially the restrooms, and one is always promptly greeted upon entering the establishment.
