The area surrounding Grand Central Terminal has long been a restaurant wasteland, but this sleek, elegant sushi restaurant has gone a long way towards changing that. Locals and commuters flock here for the large selection of fresh, innovative sushi and sashimi dishes, as well as some other tried-and-true Japanese classics. The spicy tuna rolls are just that - very spicy, very fresh. There is a relaxing ambiance, elegant and immaculate but minimalist. Sushi Yasuda serves top-quality fish that melts in the mouth but be warned - you will really enjoy the privilege.
The sushi was so good it melted in my mouth... Hands down the very best sushi I've EVER had - and that's including a trip to Japan...
Service was good too. Only issue is the price - as good as it is is as expensive as it is... 2 people for lunch consumed $160 in raw fish... go figure... but man, was it worth it!
Yasuda cannot be beat when it comes to sushi in Manhattan. I usually do not like to do what Martha Stewart does, but her favorite place is Yasuda too.
Here are a few tips for the best sushi experience: 1. Sit at the bar (the temperature of the rice is very different when eating at a table vs. the bar) 2. Sit in front of Yasuda (why not go with the best while there, right?) 3. Order the suwani, the white eel grilled to perfection with a squeeze of lemon and rock salt (Yasuda is originally an eel expert from Japan) 4. Order any other type of fish you normally like (Yasuda usually has 4-5 types of each fish, from different parts of the world).
If you like weird sushi rolls, then go to Sushi of Gari, but if you want fresh, traditional sushi with an amazing variety, then Yasuda is for you.
If you go bring alot of money and go for the Omekase. Also reserve a place at the sushi bar. The time it takes to fill your order and bring it to your table diminishes the taste, trust me. You want it straight from the chef's hand to your mouth!
