Pastis is a French bistro located in Manhattan's meatpacking district opened by Keith McNally. Executive Chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson and Chef de Cuisine Pascal Le Seac'h prepare a menu that combines hearty Provencal dishes with moderately-priced bistro fare. The bar serves a range of house cocktails, wines by the glass, carafe or bottle, and several varieties of pastis, an anise-flavored aperitif from the south of France.
We didn't make a reservation in advance so it took as 1h15m to get a table. It was worth the wait; during the wait we walked around the meat packing district and then had a couple glasses of champange and people watched.
It is loud and full of people, there seemed to be quite a few first or second dates. Great tradition french food; the french onion soup was amazing and super rich. Wines by the glass were limited but of great quality.
Overall a fun experience next time I am in NY I am would go for sure.
This is yet another example of a hyped up NYC institution...nothing great about the place. Averagre food and average service. It's fun to go with a group especailly if you need a bite to eat very late in the night.
