Tortilla Flats, New York

Now that I live in SC I really miss having Tortilla Flats just 20 mins away!!! The food, amazing! The service, amazing! and the drinks will get you drunk! I hope to be in (visit) NYC before the end of the year so I can stuff myself silly at Tortilla Flats :)

I just left this place. Me and my friends spent 6 hours there, and were probably confronted by the server ONCE. We waited over an hour for our check while our server sat around @ the bar and mingled with friends. As we left another server asked if the service was ok, as we said no (bc the server didnt check on us, could not get our bill right...took 4 times of him writing it to be right) called us RUDE for not leaving a sufficent tip and walking out. I work @ a restaurant and have NO problem with leaving a more then decent tip, but when the service is not quality, then a decent tip is not deserved. WE left 10% instead of the normal 15 or over and were called rude. Dont go here unless you have the ENTIRE night to wait for service.

If you want an unpretentious fun place to go and get a decent meal at the same time, this is the place to go! Just beware when hostess says you're next in the waiting list. That's exactly what she told us an hour before we were seated. I let it go since it was a Friday night when we decided to stop in and the food was good. Not a big menu but everything there is tasty. Loved the margaritas but not too cheap at $7 for a dive place.

Tortilla Flats, located in the Meatpacking District, doesn't take itself too seriously, thankfully. It's a decent Tex-Mex offering with some fun dishes like the Wildcard Special, which was shrimp tacos, as I recall. The selection of margarita iterations was also a plus, but overpriced compared to other Tex-Mex places. The waitstaff is down-to-earth and competent. A good choice if you're in the area, but not a place to go out of your way for.

Had a blast here with a group of girls celebrating a birthday - watch out for the birthday spanks. Fun atmosphere, servers and tasty food that is not expensive!
