Joe's Shanghai

Description

Tucked away on Chinatown's bustling Pell Street, Joe's Shanghai is best known for its Pork and Crab Soup Dumplings (the soup is actually inside the dumpling). There is an upbeat vibe to the place, probably because people are so satisfied with their food. A meal here will cost anywhere from $30 a head and up, which is fairly pricey for the neighborhood. Cash only.

While utmost staggering to consider how much pleasure those little xiao lon bao "tiny juicy dumplings") can provide to the human brain, don't let your obsession with them distract you from the other delectable treasures at this midtown gem.

Excellent Chinese at a low price. Dont expect anything in the way of ambience.(I liked the branch in Queens much better than the one in Manhattan.)

Still high quality - a bargain for the area that impresses out-of-towners.

"Still the best Shanghainese soup dumplings in town, still the crowded, jam packed tables, but absolutely heavenly when the dumplings arrive."

This is a bustling place and the service is quick as is the case in most Chinatown eateries. Decent food but caters to a non-Asian crowd.

"When food is this good - who cares about the unwelcoming decor. Be prepared to wait and be cramped into ugly quarters, and be in bliss!"

"Dumplings to dream about - go with the port and crab. Also, amazingly good braised tofu with spinach - sounds lousy, tastes fantastic!!"

Soup dumplings still great. Rest of food left something to be desired. Seems to have slipped a notch.
