Balthazar Bakery

Description

Balthazar is a recreation of a French brasserie. It is bold, loud and exciting, and is open all day from breakfast to late-night. The space is dominated by red leather banquettes with retro mirrors adding to the room's spaciousness. The restaurant is the creation of Keith McNally, who also owns Pastis in the Meatpacking District. On the menu you'll find items such as Grilled Lamb T-Bones, Duck Confit and Crisp Berkshire Pork Belly. The Sunday Brunch is particularly popular.

Managers at Balthazar understand service. They know how to run a restaurant and business. Today the manager at brunch quickly seated my friend and me in one of several available tables, and brought complimentary champagne and orange juice after we had been told to expect a 45-minute wait. The wait would have been understandable, had we not heard the hostess tell the couple before us 20 minutes. The physical review was undisguised, too. But all was made more than well by the attentive graciousness of the manager. Balthazar continues to be a favorite and we'll be back for more excellent food and service!

What is there to say? If you don't know this place, you're missing out. Fantastic Bar and Scrumptious food! I would give it four stars for availability and waiting to get a table, but call ahead and you should be fine. A little noisy as to expected (and fine by me) for its popularity in the evening. Fantastic location. Call ahead to check if they have a Private Venue going on and to book ahead. The Table and Bar Service is 5 - Star! Simply a must do and do often! Check out the Bakery, too.

Slow service and below average steak. Nice wine list and fun to people watch.

The very first thing I do after I book my flight to New York City, is make reservations at Balthazar Restaurant. I usually go twice, once for dinner and once for lunch/brunch. Wouldn't be a trip to NYC without the fine food and service at this wonderful establishment. My hats off to the proprietors - they have it right all 'round!

Service excellent, but very noisy. Tables crowded together. Onion goat cheese tart was delicious but a green salad was under dressed. Salmon and duck confit were good but not great. Dessert tarts were disappointing.

Was about twenty min. late regarding reservations and only waited about five min. and was seated quickly. Enjoyed the food wine and the warmth of this beautiful restaurnat. The mosiac tile the walls of bottled wine the seafood. It was everything I enjoyed and then some.

One of the best restaurant meals I've had in a long time. Fresh and delicious. I wish I lived around the corner so I could eat there weekly.

still excellent

Excellent, as always. However, sadly it's grown to be more tourists than locals. Food, service excellent. More for adults at night than lunch. Good weekend brunch.
