Balthazar Bakery

Description

Balthazar is a recreation of a French brasserie. It is bold, loud and exciting, and is open all day from breakfast to late-night. The space is dominated by red leather banquettes with retro mirrors adding to the room's spaciousness. The restaurant is the creation of Keith McNally, who also owns Pastis in the Meatpacking District. On the menu you'll find items such as Grilled Lamb T-Bones, Duck Confit and Crisp Berkshire Pork Belly. The Sunday Brunch is particularly popular.

Outstanding

We have dinner at least monthly at Balthazar. It always delivers - truly oustanding. The french onion soup is decadent. Prompt service - phenomenal staff and always - always - an incredible meal. Hands down - favorite restaurant in NY

Great, but resting on its laurels....
By ,
Always the 'right' spot for a romantic dinner, but getting way to touristy and loud. The dinner crowd is strictly for those riding after the curve. The real selling point for locals is the excellent bar service. Sitting at the gorgeous zinc bar and ordering one of their superb wines-by-the-glass and a decadent hamburger is worth the noise and no wait. They also serve their amazing desserts at the bar, so forgo the crowded dining room and stick with the business men eating quietly over their Wall Street Journals.

Bathazar Makes and the Epicureans Tastes

Overall one of the best in my restaurant experiences in NY. I have livied in Miami and am a current resident of Chicago, but NYC is the best restaurant cities in USA and Balthazar ranks No. 1 - it is truly food for the Gods.

Managers at Balthazar understand service. They know how to run a restaurant and business. Today the manager at brunch quickly seated my friend and me in one of several available tables, and brought complimentary champagne and orange juice after we had been told to expect a 45-minute wait. The wait would have been understandable, had we not heard the hostess tell the couple before us 20 minutes. The physical review was undisguised, too. But all was made more than well by the attentive graciousness of the manager. Balthazar continues to be a favorite and we'll be back for more excellent food and service!

Lovely French bistro and raw bar
By ,
A friend took us here while we were staying in town at the W Hotel on Lexington. Great, great, great! Still has the panache it became known for, and is one of my favorites in NY. Have the three-tier seafood appetizer, really good and really fun. Who knew conch and sea snails were so good?
