The unassuming exterior except for the hanging meat and typical Chinatown decor at Big Wong hardly prepares visitors for the carnivorous feast awaiting inside. Here you will find arguably the best barbecue meats in area, including sumptuous roast duck and pork. There is also wonton soup like you never had it before, as well as traditional congee (porridge), which can be eaten alone or with beef, chicken and other toppings. It is often crowded, but service is quick as long as you are assertive.
Big Wong is a great place to eat for tourist and locals. Everything is pretty good. They are famous for their ribs, pork, and duck. Everything is fresh because there business is so good. Things don't have time to spoil. GET THE RIBS & ASK FOR THE BURN ONES. They taste better like BBQ.
I have been going to this place for about 6yrs now. Its great and everyone i have brought with me to this place has agreed that the food is incredible. If you are looking for some atmosphere to go along with your dining experience, then maybe this is not the place for you... But if you are in the mood for some very good chinese food then this is a can't miss. 5 stars all the way....
From the dumpling soups to the BBQ Ribs to the Soy Chicken and numerous other delicious dishes you will be very happy you stopped in to enjoy a meal here. And you will come back! Best BBQ in NYC! Be sure to order a sweet or salty bread with your meal. Open seating and friendly atmosphere.
I grew up in NYC. I ate at Big Wong's at least once a week when my mom took us to chinatown on Sat to buy groceries and take piano lessons. Now I live in Cali, but every time I go back, I stop there. It's definitely a tourist trap now that word has gotten out. So you have to sit with strangers. I don't mind when strangers ask me what I recommend after seeing me order w/o a menu. Atmosphere? Yeah, it's been the same for as long as I remember (15+ years). In fact, the guy at the register w/ the circa 1980 eyeglasses has been there for as long as I can remember. But you're there for the cheap, great food. Definitely order the roast pork and the roast duck from the bbq section. There's also the fried cruellers wrapped in rice crepe and/or roast pork rice crepe. To top it off, 1000yr old egg/pork congee and wonton noodle soup. That's all I order. Definitely try some of those dishes!
All Chinese americans that grew up in New York know that Big Wong is the place to go for Chinese Barbeque (Roast Duck, Pig, Soy Sauce Chicken, etc..) and Rice Congee!!! You can't beat the price and the taste!
