Moonstruck Diner, located at 400 West 23 St. (corner of 9th and 23rd) is one of several Manhattan diners with the Moonstruck name. On a recent visit at about supper time, the place was not yet humming, so seating was quick for our group of four.
The dining room is typical NY diner, so don't expect surprises. If you're from the burbs, don't expect parking, valet or do-it-yourself. The menu is also pretty much what any experienced restaurant patron would expect at a diner.
To be brief, the turkey platters with sides, etc. at $15 , were good in terms of quality and presentation, not to mention quantity. A Cobb salad was enough for two or for one with lots of it for another meal. All in our party seemed content with what they ordered.
Service was a bit slow considering the volume of business, and soups and salads were delivered together despite a long wait for anything to be brought to the table after the orders were taken. Managing a cup of soup and a nice salad in the space provided can be a chore as well as a mild annoyance. Once the mains were brought out, service was better.
My four-star rating reflects the good quality and presentation of the foods. Detracting from a diner five star award are the service noted and also annoying iTunes music that all patrons are surrounded by. Some of that music was particularly offensive to one of our group. He asked early on whether we might be better off across the street at a competitor restaurant.
Credit cards are accepted and access is no problem, as everything is at street level. There is no report here on restroom conditions, as they were not on the tour this time.
