this kind of reminds me of when i saw the number 1 rated pizza place in NYC. It said to go to Presidential Pizza on 125th St. I was so excited I drove through central park and avoided my normal pizza place on 18th street. I arrived with my wife in extreme anticipation only to be extremely let down. it's a joke. This place had one of the worst slices ever.
I can see how Le Figaro is the best since they are closed. Don't trust these things they are never right. The best way to find out is to ask a local. Just if you are going for pizza avoid Rays. Any time you hear of a local chain it's probably not going to be the best.
Good Luck!
Le Figaro Cafe is the best restaraunte, their desserts are homemade by Lee. there are good cooks and one of the best is Walter!!
Managers of this place take care of their customers and they are really helpful)))
The most famous feature of Le Figaro is bartender Alex. And they got 2 for 1 during the week.
The most outstanding person of this place - host Milton. He is quide and he is always in a rush to greet you.
The service are really amazing.
Lets go together and enjoy their food and spirits!!!
Back in the late 80's and mid 90's my friends and I used to eat there all the time...their coffee was the best. I had some of my best moments with my dates at Le Figaro. I love it.

I just want to make a correction to the review. Figaro's is not 30 years old but more like 45 years! I was dating my husband in 1963 and we went to Figaro's regularly back then. Their hot chocolate was great as were their sandwiches, listening to classical music and enjoying seeing the French Le Monde newspapers plastered on the walls. It was a wonderful place to hang out and my husband did most of his college studying there. It is definitely one of a kind and one of the original coffee houses in the Village.
it is some good stuff. I love this place the bread is very good and that is the most special part. the tomato on the BLT is also very good.
You should really go on an empty stomach.
As a displaced NYer I can attest to missing Le Figaro, although I wouldn't put it in my favorite places for a sandwhich. However, if you want great ambiance, spirits, coffee, tea or hot chocolate a good time can be had by all.
I ate at the Figaro 37 years ago. Since it was in the west village, I assume it is the same place. It was edgy and funky at the time. Don't remember much about the food.
This place is a 'Village' institution which I have been going to for over 30 years. The bloody mary's are terrific and the crust on the the quiche is to die for. As for people watching in NYC this is about as good as it gets!
What a great place to hang out and people watch. Their mudpie is the greatest. The brunch on sunday morning was great also. Mimosas were wonderful. and very continental menu
