A trendy Italian Flatiron favorite, Basta Pasta first opened in Tokyo in 1985. This small, sleek, often-crowded restaurant resembles an art gallery with different artists displaying their artwork. With an open kitchen designed in 'Iron Chef' fashion, the entrees are cooked before your eyes and served by attentive Japanese wait staff. From homemade pumpkin gnocchi to tasty pastas and pork chops to charcoal-grilled seafood, Italian Japanese style is the way to go.

This restaraunt was awful. I got food poisoning the next day. The service was so slow.. took over one hour to get our first course. I do NOT recommend this restaraunt!

I HAVE GONE HERE SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE YET TO BE DISAPPOINTED. THE FOOD IS GREAT.. THE STAFF IS VERY CORDIAL AND ATTENTIVE.. THE ATMOSPHERE IS COMFORTABLE AND FRIENDLY. GREAT DATE SPOT. JUST CALL AHEAD TO MAKE RESERVATIONS

Pasta + Japanese perfectionism

Conveniently located near Union Sq. They serve traditional pasta dishes (no Japanese fusion) from an immaculate open kitchen that you walk thru before sitting. Dishes are all delicious (perhaps too... precise?) and staffs are courteous. One of my favorite restaurants in NYC

Perfect first date and anniversary dinner

The food quality here is AMAZING! I've been back several times and tried many different things on the menu -- never disappointed. The pasta dishes are excellent, the meat dishes are phenomenal (grilled ribeye - yum!), and dessert is always wonderful. If you like black pasta, ask them to substitute it in their seafood pasta dishes -- it's excellent. It's pricey, but not unreasonable.
