Luca's Ristorante of Somerset
If you are seeking not just a great meal, but a great dining experience, you need look no further than Luca's Ristorante Somerset. Tucked away on Rt. 27 between Princeton and New Brunswick, Luca's Somerset is an oasis of authentic regional Italian cuisine. Offering modern adaptations of traditional dishes from Ischia, here you can enjoy hand-cut ravioli stuffed with Chef Andrea's latest mouth-watering combinations, a selection of fish entrees so fresh that they evoke the Mediterranean Sea, or a filet of such quality that it is paralleled only by the accoutrement that accompany it. Our dining room decor is uniquely Ischitana, and goes to show that here at Luca's Somerset, we understand that the difference is in the details. When you are done with it all, take in the cozy setting with a delicious dessert made from scratch, and the perfect cup of locally micro-roasted espresso or cappuccino. So please, be our guest.
If Italian is your thing, this is the place to be. Out of this world food, comfortable atmosphere, and great service. From the moment my wife and I walked in, we were made to feel at home. Our waiter was polite and attentive, not overly talkative, and very knowledgeable about the menu. I consider myself a calamari expert, and this was one of the best plates of calamari I ve ever had. I ordered a gnocchi dish that included fabulous sirloin bits and parmigiana cheese that I was told was aged for 24 months. My wife got the wild caught Honolulu salmon and still can t stop talking about it. I have made a great new find in my area. I no longer have to travel to New York or Princeton for excellent quality food.
One of my friend told me about Lucas went last night place was packed I did not make reservations I should of but I got a table of 2 with in 45 minutes I was so hungry that when I was seated I asked for bread it was a good start to great meal grilled calamari salad, veal Ossobuco, lobster cannelloni so much seafood! quality food at a fair price next time I will make reservations wish I found it sooner
Overrated! Service is very slow, food is average and pricing is extremely high. Many servers cannot speak proper English and I will not be back. There are too many other good restaurants out there to go back. Stay away.
Very very excellent all around I had burrata cheese wow some fresh cocoa pasta with butternut squash and veal ossobucco as my entree this place has it all I've been going here for a few month now I can't get enough leave room for dessert the portions are big the lava cake is chocolate heaven ask for it in advance it takes like 15 minutes coffee is a must they use small world from Princeton
I usually read reviews and think, that will never happen to me, but this place is not worth the risk. With horrible service and mediocre food at best, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!
Once seated we waited forever to be greeted. After 25 minutes we finally flagged down the waiter to take our order because we could not wait any longer. During our meal when we occasionally saw our waiter we asked for more water or bread, he would acknowledge the request and never come back. We either had to ask again or wait an unreasonable amount of time (30 minutes for more water). The salad and entree both took nearly an hour to come out and were not worth the wait. (we were there from 8pm-11pm) Worse than the food was the service, not friendly or attentive, and it was a quiet Thursday evening.
We will never return!
OMG! This place is a hidden treasure! Atmosphere is a wow! The food is sooooo great! We keep coming back for more and bring friends here when we want to make them feel special.
Lots of great choices both lunch and dinner. It's all outstanding!
Have eaten at this restaurant many times and enjoyed a variety of foods. I love trying the specials the Chef creates, there always fresh and interesting. Being Italian myself, I've been to Italy many times to visit family, and Luca's comes as close as possible to meals I've enjoyed there. Servers are young, but polite and attentive. I usually eat very healthy, but when I'm in the mood for comfort food, whole wheat pasta with bolognese sauce is always my pick!
I was anxious to try Luca's after reading so many rave reviews on urban spoon. My husband and I went there last night. I was very pleased by the ambiance of the restaurant. You really don't feel like you're in a strip mall restaurant at all.
We ordered a bruschetta caprese appetizer, and were very pleased by it... it was really fresh and tasty. The bread basket was really good too--we had 2 rolls, 2 sesame seed rolls, and something with garlic and melted cheese.
Our entrees were the disappointment of our meal. I was debating between the fresh pasta and a seafood pasta entree. I chose the seafood pasta (shrimp amalfi), and I probably should have gone for the fresh pasta. It really had no flavor, despite having broccoli, shrimp, mushrooms, and other things. My husband chose a chicken dish (chicken pulcinella). I thought the chicken itself was cooked perfectly--so tender. His comment was that all the parts (balsamic reduction, gorgonzola cheese, ham, chicken) were excellent, but together not so good. He felt that the gorgonzola really overwhelmed the other flavors. We chose not to get dessert, but a neighboring table got both tiramisu and gelato and were raving about it.
Anyway, we felt in all that the restaurant was fine, but not something we're going to make the drive for in the future.
It pains me to write this review, since I have been a long time customer of Lucas, purchasing their Subs. I once decided to take my wife here for dinner, she ordered the Lasagna and I had Tilapia. After a few minutes of eating, I noticed that my wife wasn't too happy with her Lasagna, when I tried it, it tasted like it had been stored for days and thrown in the microwave; my Tilapia however was good. When I told the waitress about it, she immediately caught an attitude and took the dish back, she later came back to tell my wife if she wanted anything else from the Menu and her attitude worsened when my wife told her that she really didn't want anything else to eat. Time and time again, the waitress returned to the table with her attitude problem. We finally just paid the check and left. To summary, Lucas is a good place to get a great Sub and maybe a few good dishes, but not worthy of a 5-star review. They really need to focus on customer service and satisfaction; this was my experience and for that, I give it a 2-star review.
