Went for third time tonight; I don't eat Sushi but what I saw others eat portions quite large. Did Hibachi again...the fried rice is delicious and plentiful. Had chicken & scallops tonight...DELICIOUS. Other times did chicken and shrimp or just chicken; delicious each and every time. No wait any time to be seated. Service was fine. Much better than Benihana, and other chain places where they charge you 2x the price and you get half the food. Will go back for Hibachi again.
I've been going to U-Yee since they had just opened, close to 15 years ago now. I have always loved the sushi. At first, the hibachi was also really good. I remember they used to give both rice AND noodles for no extra charge, and they put on a great show. Now, you're lucky if they give you more than just a little bit of rice.
The service has gotten worse and worse throughout the years. I've walked out on more than one occasion. It's hard to give up a restaurant that was your favorite for so many years, but I reached my breaking point just recently when I was forced to wait for more than an hour despite their being open tables. First, I was told the wait was 20 min. After about a 1/2 hour, a couple of 4 tops opened up. There was no one else waiting but my friend and I were told they could not seat us at a 4 top because their was only 2 of us. After waiting another 10 min, we STILL weren't seated. I told the man that we had been going there for years and that we usually buy enough rolls to feed 4 people. He still wouldnt seat us.
We ended up leaving and going up the road to Penang. They may not serve sushi anymore but at least they appreciate the business. U-Yee has really become nothing more than a place to eat mediocre sushi while the wait staff disrespects and insults you over and over again.
I know some have complained about the service, but some times you need to overlook that for good food, especially sushi. Their sushi is fresh and delicious. The service is something to be desired but that is something that does not bother me if the food is great. So go with the mind that you will enjoy the sushi and not to be pampered. The other think I am commenting on is the sushi as the hibachi was just ok.
Have to also say price is very reasonable. A family of 5 that included 2 hibachi dinners, and 2 sashimi deluxe (21 pcs each) for under $100 is pretty good.
i am from the south, but travel all over the USA. I found this sushi barely edible. The fish did not appear to be fresh and everything was room temperature. The white fish on the dragon roll was disgusting. The Salmon was ok, the rice was not good. I have had much better sushi from a grocery store. Half price was the only positive, but it still wasnt worth it, i guess that should have been the warning sign, even thought it was pretty crowded.
I've been going to U-Yee for years now and really enjoy the food itself. But I'd have to agree with some of the reviewers here about the service staff. They aren't the friendliest people in the world and usually don't come to ask how things are or if you need anything. On occasion, you'll get a refill without asking but the effort is usually on the customer's part to flag down a server. On the rarer occasion, you'll get a server who politely checks in a couple times during the meal. Regardless of service quality, I tip well b/c I know servers don't typically get paid much per hour.
Most recently, I ate there with a friend. We finished our meal and paid our bill, leaving a generous tip, but sat for a few more minutes. Our server took his tip while we were still seated and then asked us to leave so that the other customers could be sat. My friend and I looked around and saw that there were some people waiting but there were other available tables, so why ask us to leave? We sat a few more minutes and the same server asked us to leave again, citing that there were lots of people waiting for a table. Irritated, we finally just left and passed only a 5-top on our way out (no one else waiting outside), who wouldn't have been able to be seated at our 2-top table.
I'm sure I'll be back again b/c the food and prices are good, but I will likely patronize the place less often due to this unpleasant experience. And next time I eat there, instead of tipping according to my usual standards, I'll probably base the tip on merit and service quality.
i'm not a picky person when it comes to sushi and i've gone to this resturant a couple of times because majority of sushi restaurants are far away. and the prices of the sushi are good if you don't have a lot of money but i still recommend not going to this place. the food is ok but the waitresses are so rude. and i personally think if you have poor quality service but still good food, it's not worth it. because it'll make you feel uncomfortable the whole time. and i'd rather have an atmosphere that makes me want to go there every time.
just recently, i gave a fair amount of tip of what they deserve because she wasn't the greatest waitress. she was so disrespectful when she got the bill back and blatantly asked us to give her tip while we were getting up. she's lucky i responded like a lady and gave what i had left in my wallet that was money for gas.
i recommend going to other sushi places than over here and i'd rather drive to a better restaurant than waste my time over there. i used to love it there, but one bad experience ruined it. and it's bitter going over there now. :(
i have gone here often for a few years. i love this place. however, it is not a 5 star restaurant so dont expect one. they offer very good sushi for a great price. the half off specials are fantastic. i would recommend this to any casual diner as a must try. try the volcano roll!!!!!!!!!
