Initially, I had planned to check out this restaurant on my 48th birthday/2011 but never made it. I finally made it March 2012 along with my young daugther. The cold platter I was dying to try is named First Mate. It consisted of a chilled combination platter with lobster, shrimp, clams, jumbo lump crabmeat, potato salad & cole slaw. The plate arrangement was different from the pic on the website, most usually do, but it was delicious! I was not disappointed with the quality or quantity.
However, the two female hosts kept watching us as if we were not necessarily welcome. I guess skin color still matters. Another issue that made it such an unpleasant dining experience, was one of them kept coming near our table, to hint it was time to leave because they needed tables for arriving customers. I thought only they only did that at all you can eat chinese buffets. LOL! My suggestion to the restaurant is to increase your dining area, and do not indirectly rush your customer's dining experience. It is bad for business!
After many years of wonderful food, I was deeply disappointed at my last dinner in both the quality and quantity. The broiled seafood platter was totally overcooked. In addition, the crab cake was filler. Unfortunately, I did not listen to friends who had dined a few weeks before me. They too were fans of the restaurant for many, many years. But, they had called me to say that everyone in their party were extremely disappointed in their meals that evening.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. No complaints there. Just one small issue:
The atmosphere is a bit confusing. The restaurant has sort of a stuffy look to it, but most of the patrons are either seniors or families with small children. As a 21 year-old out for dinner and drinks, the experience was awkward.
My favorite place to eat in the area and one of my top 5 and ive eaten all over. great food, good lobster and very good prices and service. i discovered it one valetines day when i wanted to go to a new place. great evrything. I mm oing thurs. night and I cant wait.
Thanks everyone for their reviews! I actually found out about the Crab Trap through Yahoo! Local because it was the highest rated restaurant for Ocean City. NJ. This was delicious! Fresh seafood and a lot of it at dinner time. I suggest the crab cakes. They also have a great wine selection.
My favorite place around South Jersey to dine. Especially at lunch. The food is excellent. The french onion soup is the best. I have to get that every time I go. The fried scallops are usually soooo tender and sweet and the fried shrimp, oh the best. I just love this place. And since the remodel a few years ago, I enjoy going there so much, its such a nice and comfortable place to dine.
