This place rocks! The seafood was excellent and the service was great! From the cheery hostess, Maggie, greeting us and later when leaving wishing us goodnight, to the cute beach theme.. everything was superb and we'll be back!
My wife and I ate there this summer, June 22, '08. We chose it based on a recommendation. I'll say up front - I do not care to dine out. I was a professional chef for years and don't much care to pay for food I can cook better myself. I also don't much care to eat a large meal in the evening.
That said, this place is fantastic, the food exquisite and expertly prepared and FINALLY was prepared with appropriate flavours and gusto.
I had the house special, Seafood Riviera, served in a white wine and garlic sauce. It was amazing, really very good, huge fresh shrimp, gobs of lump crabmeat, succulent scallops, and tender clams. My wife had the Norwegian Salmon and was thrilled with her choice. The salmon was grilled perfectly and the steak VERY generous.
I note from a previous review written in 95 that the ownership has changed. We met the new owners, in fact, they made a point to introduce themselves and make sure we were enjoying our meal.
The service was very good and considering how very busy they were that night, it spoke to their excellent efforts that we did not have to wait around for service.
I do not write reviews. In fact, I found this looking for the number to make a reservation, ( we're visiting OC soon and my wife insisted we dine at Cousins ). I don't like dining out and I don't care for most restaurant fare.
I really like this place and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends. In fact, we had friends visit us in OC and we all had dinner at Cousins on June 27, '08. Again, it was amazing, everyone - including our very finicky friends, had a great time, shared to appetizers, ( a nice Calamari Fritti and a roasted peppers, mozzarella, and crostini that was superb ).
Go. Be hungry. Enjoy.
This was a yearly visit to a restaurant I have always liked in the past. We were six in our party. Two of us ordered a signature dish, Seafood Riviera, which was supposed to be scallops, shrimp and artichokes in a olive oil sauce with a touch of pesto. What we got was a bowl of heavy sauce- covered pasta loaded with canned artichokes and a few shrimp and scallops barely visable through the thick glop. It was dreadful. Another person ordered Veal Oscar. What arrived was a piece of shoeleather veal also swimming in a sauce. The veal was not chewable and the asparagus tough. Although I really hate to return food, it was a necessity for the veal dish.
The two exceptions to our disappointment were the salad which is consistently good and the crispy bread served in a bucket.
I was told there are new owners at this location. I would suggest a review of their menu and some cooking courses for the chef.
