Proudly serving Cape May since 1976, this fine dining, yet comfortable, restaurant offers a delectable selection of cuisine daily for lunch, dinner, and late night dining with house specialties including Rib
I live a few miles from Cape May. This is great for a day trip. Every winter, I take my mother for lunch at the Pilot House. After walking around the shops, my mother and I (mainly) stop in the Pilot House for the hot buttered rum drinks. This warm, tasty drink by the fireplace will heighten your experience of Cape May. Mom always gets the crab cakes and I get the quiche of the day, as I am a vegetarian. The staff is wonderful. My boyfriend and I stopped in this winter. Bartender Katie and server, Jenna were more than pleasant. It was nice to see smiles and warmth on that damp winter day. Great service girls !
Completely average and very over priced, IMO...even for Cape May. An appetizer of Buffalo Wings for $10? French Onion soup for $6? $20 for Sirloin steak? At these prices, the food should be at least above average, and it isn't. Also, unless you're a seafood fan (neither of us are), the menu is very limited, with only a couple chicken, beef, or pork items on the menu, unless you count the $11 grilled chicken breast sandwich or the $12 Nachos. You get the idea lol...
The Pilot House is my families favorite restaurant! The children love the beautiful aquarium and the friendly staff. The daily specials and soups are always delicious.
Last week we celebrated my mothers 80th birthday with 15 family members, every dinner was prepared perfectly and the appetizers were fabulous. The prices are very resonable, We always feel very comfortable and well taken care of at the Pilot House
I'm surprised at the good reviews. I suppose it's possible we were there on a bad night, but it's hard to get everything wrong on any given night so I doubt it. To start off, you come in past a bar full of rowdy people (someone else mentioned this was a good family place....hardly). The noise from the bar disrupted our meal, however that at least gave us some entertainment as the meal was nothing to talk about. The rolls had clearly been on some kind of warming tray for a long time as the bottom of all of them was rock hard. The bleu cheese dressing on the salad was runny, like water - I ate it, but regreted it. The New York Strip steak ordered medium was well done and tough. The onion rings were soggy. The Veal Parm was good. We won't be back.
My wife and I were there last evening for dinner and found the atmosphere nice, staff pleasant, food very good and prices reasonable. Portions were good. I had the broiled fresh local flounder and it certainly was freshly caught and cooked just right. My wife had a BBQ Mahi Mahi that was excellent. Our waitress was pleasant but service seemed a bit slow. However, watching the other servers, it seemed this might have been an individual problem and not indicative of the entire staff. (Perhaps she was new?)
Bottom line: we will return again next year when we are vacationing in the area.
The Pilot House is popular for three reasons: it's one of the only Cape May restaurants open year round & all day; the food (especially the French onion soup and their hamburgers) is great; and they have a fabulous Happy Hour every day.
Fun, nautical decor and a friendly staff round it out.
It's where you'll find the locals all winter long.
I loved this restaurant! It had a great atmosphere, and the people were great. You must go to this restaurant because the prices were great and family consious.
