On a recent vacation to Avalon, I was in a party of 12 family members who decided to go to Maggie's on the spur of the moment for Saturday lunch. Within just 10-15 minutes, Maggie's was able to accommodate us at one large table, even though the restaurant was packed. The server arrived promptly and efficiently collected our orders. Five of us ordered the Hot Veggie Hoagie, an item recommended by the server. It was loaded with lots of sauteed veggies (including broccoli, red and green bell peppers, onions and mushrooms) on a warm, soft hoagie roll, topped with lettuce and tomatoes -- absolutely delicious, and a great choice for vegetarians, vegans or anyone trying to get more veggies into their diet. Two others in my party ordered the Belgian waffles (one topped theirs with fresh blueberries and the other with fresh peaches) and they scarfed them down. Another ordered the Italian Hoagie, and he said the italian ham was the most flavorable he's eaten in years. Another ordered the Eggs Florentine from the breakfast menu and she said it was flavorful cooked to perfection. There were all 2 small children among us who feasted on the Mac & Cheese and Grilled Cheese sandwiches with good results.
The only downside was the noise, which at one point, was substantial. It was hard to hear anyone who wasn't sitting directly beside or across the table from you. Eventually, the lunch crowd began to thin, and it was easier to engage in conversation. But coming to Maggie's during peak times should be reconsidered by those who find it difficult to hear when there is a lot of ambient noise present.
With that said, if we return to Avalon, Maggie's will be on the list of Go To restaurants for a casual, well-prepared and affordable meal.
