Outstandingac. acoeFantasticac. These are just two words used by our customers to describe their feelings about Sakana Orientalac2s variety of foods. Creating their future and fulfilling a dream, Paul Ching, Peter Wong, Michael Huang and Andy Chen opened Sakana Oriental in January 2002. The restaurant started with Japanese and Chinese Cuisine along with a sushi bar and has now expanded the menu to include Thai, Vietnamese and fusion cooking dishes. The familyac2s earlier business located in Oak Valley, gave them the opportunity to gain experience as restaurateurs and after only three years, Sakana Oriental was voted multiple times for both acoeThe Best of Gloucester Countyac and Courier-Post Reader's Choice acoeBest of South Jersey.ac
My wife and I use to visit Sakana at least three times per week. The food is delicious, the price is reasonable, and it's close by. The place looks a bit dirty and run-down but it never stopped us. There are quite a few times where we'd visit Sakana twice in the same day!
This all stopped after a few disappointing experiences with the owner, Paul. After dropping literally over 2 thousand dollars in that restaurant, one day we decided to visit and brought along a coupon to save some money. It was something like $5 off a check of $40 or more. When we brought our bill to Paul to pay, he examined the coupon thoroughly and pointed out that the coupon expired TWO DAYS earlier. So he declined to give us the $5 discount. Fine. We weren't thrilled with it but we should have checked the expiration.
For Christmas, my brother bought us a $50 gift certificate. My wife and I went to Sakana for lunch and spent around $25 dollars, and used our gift certificate. The lady at the register wrote down an updated balance on our gift card so we knew for next time. About a week later we went for lunch, racked up another $25-$30 bill and used the remainder of our gift certificate.
Well Paul pulled out a composition book of 'records' and was trying to tell me that the lady who rang up our bill last time made a mistake and didn't take enough off of the giftcard, so we actually have less money on our giftcard than what it says. That was it. After thousands of dollars, over a hundred visits, and the previous coupon incident we refuse to go back to Sakana.
Because of their supposed 'mistake', we had to pay out of pocket because there wasn't enough money on our giftcard. A respectable restaurant would have accepted their own mistake, ate the $10 or whatever it is, in order to keep peace with a loyal customer but Sakana showed its true colors and Rachelle and I have refused to go back.
