recently went here with a large party and had a really poor experience all around. the one positive was that one of the children in the party did not like the mac and cheese they ordered and it was replaced free of charge with a grilled cheese. the bad news is the grilled cheese looked like two pieces of toast with a half melted slice of cheese in it. i ordered the lobster mac and cheese which was essentially the children's mac and cheese with a miniscule amount of lobster added...for the price they charged, i expected some large chunks of lobster but there was so little lobster that a blind taste tester wouldn't have even been able to differentiate between the mac and cheese and lobster mac and cheese. fried sampler and trio combo were also very poor choices for our table as were the coconut shrimp and some of the fried apps which were comparable to what you might find in the freezer section of your local supermarket...and again, this wasn't cheap. if you must go, the crab legs and crab cakes were the only two decent things ordered by our party and i stress they were just decent.

The manager of this place should quit the restaurant -banquet business. She was downright rude and disrespectful. Food was average. Yea, the sunset was nice, but there are tons of restaurants along the jersey shore that have beautiful views of sunsets with better food, more space and pleasant management. I will never recommend this place to anyone for dinner or a private function.

Great Food, Beautiful Views!!! The Boathouse was delightful. We were a group of 5, we brought in our own wine since it is BYOB, and we were seated close to the water (we did have a reservation which was great since they were packed). The view is spectacular and while enjoying our delicous meals we shared the most incredible sunset! I had the Tuna which was encrusted with sesame seeds and cooked to perfection (be sure to say how you like your tuna cooked), my husband & sister had their annual 2 lb. lobster which they dove right into! My brother inlaw had the Swordfish Steak which he loved, and my son had the Sea Bass which he said was the best Sea Bass he ever had. Our portions were hardy, nobody left hunger. If you like seafood, yes - this is the place to go when staying on LBI!!!

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ... DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ... THE BOATHOUSE WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT ... WENT THIS EVENING WITH MY MOM AND DAD - SENIOR CITIZENS WHO FOR DIETARY REASONS EAT VERY LITTLE IN THE EVENING SO THEY USUALLY SPLIT A DINNER ... THE BOATHOUSE CHARGED THEM $5 FOR AN EXTRA PLATE AND THE PAELLA WAS MEDIOCRE AT BEST ... ONE OF MY DAUGHTERS HAD TERRIYAKI CHICKEN & SHRIMP AND SHE WAS ONLY MILDLY DISAPPOINTED THOUGH THE SHRIMP WERE WAY OVERCOOKED - VERY TOUGH MY OTHER DAUGHTER CHOSE SHRIMP SCAMPI OVER LINGUINE ... AGAIN, THE SHRIMP WERE WAY OVERCOOKED AND THE PASTA UNDERCOOKED ... MY NIECE CHOSE FISH AND CHIPS AND THEY WERE OKAY, BUT HER BROTHERS' DINNERS, A BURGER OFF THE KIDS' MENU WENT UNTOUCHED AND A BOWL OF PASTA THAT CAME WITH A BOWL OF KETCHUP YET WITHOUT THE REQUESTED BUTTER WERE ALSO VERY DISAPPOINTING! THE $10 PLATE OF FRIED CALAMARI WAS PATHETIC ... A FEW RINGS THROWN ONTO A PLATE WITH WHAT LOOKED LIKE REMNANTS OF ROASTED RED PEPPERS MY PENNE ALLA VODKA WAS NOT AT ALL PENNE ALLA VODKA, BUT SOMETHING ELSE THAT WAS LOUSY ... MINE DID NOT COME WITH THE STEAMED VEGGIE OF THE DAY (BROCCOLI) BECUASE THERE WERE NINE PEAS IN THE BOWL ... WHEN I ASKED FOR SOME PARMIGIANO, THEY BROUGHT ME A TINY PLASTIC CUP FILLED WITH SOME STALE CHEESE ... THE SERVICE WAS ONLY FAIR, AND THE ATMOSPHERE WOULD HAVE BEEN LOVELY (IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SETTING) BUT IT WAS SO LOUD!! IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO HOLD CONVERSATION WITH THE PERSON ACROSS THE TABLE WITHOUT SHOUTING WHY WAS THE RADIO ON? WE COULDN'T HEAR IT OVER THE MANY, MANY DINERS WHO FILLED THE OVERCROWDED BOATHOUSE ... AN 18% GRATUITY FOR PARTIES OVER 7 IS ALMOST STANDARD, BUT THE SERVICE SHOULD WARRANT SUCH A TIP ... HERE IT DID NOT ... ON THE WAY OUT I COULDN'T HELP BUT ASK ONE OF THE WAITRESSES IF SHE GOES HOME EACH NIGHT WITH A POUNDING HEADACHE BECAUSE OF THE VOLUME AT THIS PLACE ... SHE LOOKED AT ME AS THOUGH I HAD TWO HEADS ... IN RETROSPECT I'M THINKING SHE COULDN'T HEAR ME DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ... DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ... THE BOATHOUSE LONG BEACH ISLAND, NEW JERSEY WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

A real treat.

This family run restaurant is wonderful. The food is super fresh and well prepared. The wait staff is well educated on the menu and dishes come out in the order they are suppose to. I have been there 10 or 15 times and have never had a bad experience. I will go back many more times. Shhh! Dont tell anyone about this nice place.

We go back year after year!
The Boathouse is one of my husband and my favorite places to eat on LBI! We always eat on the patio overlooking the bay. It is very nice to say the least. Not a fancy looking restaurant by any means and they are BYOB. But the food is outstanding! HUGE and I mean HUGE Crab legs and the best I ever tasted fried shrimp. The desserts were okay. Compared to some of the other dessert offerings at LBI restaurants, The Boathouse could step it up a notch with more homemade offerings and better selection. The Creme Brule was a disappointment. Still, well worth the money. Do yourself a favor and try The Boathouse Restaurant. My husband and I will go back again this year. I look forward to my fried shrimp dinner!
