We live in Califon and have never heard of the Pump House however after buying a Christmas tree I asked then man if there was a good place for comfort food ( it was raining and cold that night) he suggested the Pump House. The atmosphere reminded us of places up in the White Mountains of NH with all of the wood decor and the River setting. The steak was cooked to perfection, escargot and crab soup were excellent as well. Highly recommend this place just wish it was daylight when we were there so that we can enjoy the river view. We plan to go back there for lunch.
My husband and I enjoyed a very romantic dinner here. It was quiet and friendly, the food was perfectly prepared and the service was welcoming and attentive. We really had a great night and we will definately be going back.
We took my mom there 5 years ago for her 80th birthday. Yesterday she turned 85 and we surprised her and took her back. The waitress was nice but the food was way overpriced for what we got. The portions were small. My sons got the shrimp scampi and rice. There were 6 shrimp and a small bowl of cold rice. Myself and my mom ordered the prime rib which we were told about 15 min after ordering that they were out of it. My wife got the fish and it was a small portion. At the end of the dinner we got the check and I couldn't figure out how they added it up. The math didnt work for me. I added it up and came up with a total of about a 20 dollar difference. The waitress added it up and came up with the price on the ticket. I left the restaurant and while walking out with my mom the manager came outside and stopped me on the sidewalk. Mind you, my mom is 85 and we were walking with her to the car celebrating her birthday. the manager asked why I left a tip so small. I left a 10.00 tip. I explained that I leave what I feel is proper. She explained that it was customary to leave between 15-20%. I told her that this is what I wanted to leave but she was very pushy and demanding. Not wanting my mom to wait in the car for us to continue her birthday I put another 10.00 n the tip. he manager was VERY rude and I will never return to this restaurant again. My wife called the manager after we dropped of my mom and the manager was rude to her as well.
I went to The Pump House Restaurant last night for the first time with friends. The food was great and the service was very friendly. We had a table with a view of the river which was beautiful. I plan on returning this weekend with my husband.
My wife and I have been regulars for seven years now. The food is consistantly excellent and the service is always friendly. We have held several large family functions there (forty or more people) and everyone has always raved about the food. Eileen and her staff are excellent in assisting you with the menu planning. As with any restaurant there have been occassional challenges, but we can count them on one hand.
We visited the Pump House on the recommendation of a neighbor. There was a wait for a table in the dining room, so we sat on the patio. The view here is gorgeous. The service was friendly - if a little leisurely. I had the lamb shank, my wife had the salmon. Both were delicious. We will be returning!
Not the best experience. Had reservations at the Pump House for after a Centenary stage show. Our table was ready, but the restaurant was not. We had to wait to see a menu. Service was bad. Ended up being overcharged. Had to hunt down our waitress to resolve the error on our bill. Food though was OK.
My husband and I went out for date night..we were hoping for something romantic...it has the location on the river--but honestly that's about it...outdated and certainly not for a younger couple on a date...menu was very blah--as was the food..cafeteria food at best..it's a shame because we were looking for something local to enjoy on a regular basis..
I had my boyfriends 40th birthday party there.
Had a buffet for 25 people 3 years ago and the guests are still talking about how the food was the best they ever had. Eileen (owner) assisted me with my menu . I brought in decorations and a cake and they even helped me set up the decorations and cake. The food was outstanding and everyone including the picky boyfriend loved food. Food was phenomenal.
Best outdoor dining in the area with a scenic view of the river.
I've been a regular for many years, and the private owners are consistent in improving everything.
The menu selection is very good, as is the preparation also very good.
They have something for all tastes.
Service is always exact and accommodating.
A must visit restaurant.
My friend told me that he had the best prime rib steak he ever had anywhere at The Pump House...and he's dined all over the world.
