I work by this place and as of today there is a sign in it's window saying it's closed.
Good I say! I used to frequent this place a lot but for some reason I kept on getting inconsistent prices and there were quite a few times I ate something from there that didn't quite agree with me. Perfect example, one week I went in there 3 times and ordered a chicken caesar salad each time. One day I was billed $7, another day $11, and then another day $12! What the heck?
Another time I was sitting there in the restaurant waiting for my food and had ordered a burger. I happened to glance around a bit and noticed everything around me and I saw a waiter talking to one of the mexican cooks and saw that he had quickly pointed at me. After I got my food and went back to work, I noticed it smelled a little funny and tasted not quite right... I spent the rest of the workday on the toilet.
After that I never went back there again.
I have only visited the cornerstone cafe once, enjoyed the atmosphere and the food but will never go there again. I cannot frequent a place that does not exhibit integrity. Not paying their employees is behavior that should not be tolerated in this day and age.
I've been going to this place for a few weeks and thought it was ok. Then one day I ordered a Texas Burger from there and not only did it smell funny when I was eating it, but about an hour later it made me violently ill!
Not to mention the lack of consistency in the prices too!! I went in a few days and was charged $8 for a chicken ceasar salad each time. Then I go in another day and get charged $12 for the same thing!!! (not to mention the breadstick that came with it tasted like Windex!) Plus, it says that the price is $9.25 on the menu!
I was also chatting with another coworker about this and he said he refuses to go there for the same inconsistencies as mentioned above. It seems like this place likes to charge you whatever they want to at any given time instead of whats on the menu.
I went to Cornerstone last month for the first time for lunch on an invitation. I didn't know they even served lunch. All I can say is what a surprise.
Thier menu was very nice, and I will be going back to try some of their other dishes.
I had a great meal there and would definitely recommend it to others.
Desserts are the highlight of most meals, but Cornerstone goes beyond what you would normally expect. Fresh, creamy, chocolatey - is that a word? They never disappoint me.
If you are looking for a treat for dinner, try the Romanian steak with a side of sweet potato fries...mmmmm
Agree with Rosalie Avin - January 28, 2005 review.
Deserts are particularly good. Call ahead to be sure, but there is music on most Friday and Saturday evenings. Nice things about the music: (a) it's pleasant, things like acoustic guitar duos and (b) the volume is not overpowering. You can acutally listen and have a conversation.
It's a pleasant place on a corner in Freehold. The food is good and at times free music adds to the pleasant atmosphere.Unfortunately, the coffee is never hot enough!!!which detracts from the fact it's a coffeehouse.
