I am a corned beef and pastrami addict and have eaten at jewish style delis/ restaurants all over this country and Bragmans is the champ of all champs.
Charlie has passed on but his son Larry has carried the family banner with pride.
I'm right around the corner from this place, the neighborhood isn't too bad, just make sure you go during the day
And it's maaaaddddd good
Make sure you look into the Charlie's Special you'll have a mouthgasm
This little place has the best corned beef and pastrami sandwich I've ever had. Hands down better than the NYC deli's and much cheaper. I've had Jewish deli in many states including Canada (Montreal has a famous Jewish deli) , who would've thought my favorite would be in Newark, NJ. Be warned the neighborhood is bad, but this place is so worth it. Trust me!
I eat at Coopers, Hobbys, Irvings and Goodmans... NO one comes close to Bragman's they beat the others hands down, I drive down from Chatham for a Bragmans, and tip the workers they really hook you up with loads of cornbeef & Pastrami, hat off to my guy behind the counter.
you can keep the rest Bragman's is the BEST
Honor the last Jews in Newark by enjoying a sandwich at Bragman's.
Once the center of the Jewish universe, this area is now home to Jewish Soul Food!
Although Bragman's neighborhood has taken on a gritty edge, the house-cured pastrami, corned beef, and chopped liver are still just as warm and delicious as in decades prior. The line for a hand-crafted sandwich sometimes starts at the door. Allow yourself some extra time, and don't park across the street, parking tickets are expensive here. If you have to call to place an order first - do so, but you may want to spend a little time here. The mood in this oldest Jewish deli in Newark (est. 1951) is cheerful, warm, and caring. The owners are kind and if you show patience, a smile will follow you through your meal.
Try a Jack's Special sandwich sliced fatty (read: extra flavorful) corned beef, sweet chopped liver, Russian dressing, and crispy cole slaw on crusty, Pechter Rye Bread. At $6 the prices haven't changed with the times. The mother and son ownership team casts a watchful eye over every single sandwich here. Pickles are half-sour, massive sloppy Joes--too big for just one person--a masterpiece of savory, smoked meats. Save room for dessert. Bragmans is the last historic Newark deli--located in the Weequahic neighborhood. Honor the history of the Jews in Weequahic by enjoying your lunch at Bragman's. Bring some friends. And by all means get a few sandwiches to go. Tell them I sent you!
I have been going there since the Annex for lunch and then later in my life moved to Florida 15 years ago miss Charlies son and his food. He kept it the same from the beging just as his Grandfather always did and his father. Good Luck to you and may you be there for many years to come next time I am up north I will visit.
AAAAMAZING SANDWICHES!!! They've been in business for almost 60 years and I've been enjoying they're sandwiches since I was a teen. I've never had a sandwich from Bragman's that I absolutely didn't LOOOOOVE!
The quality of the meat is superb, the sour pickles are delish. Bragman's runs rings around ANY NYC deli. Please keep in mind that 60 years ago, the neighborhood was predominantly Jewish and such is NOT the case today. It is ALWAYS crowded so you might wanna call your order in ahead of time, but I can guarantee you will NOT be disappointed!
Bragman's still has the best sandwiches in Jersey. The service is great and the food is awesome. Please do not be fooled by the appearance. Bragman is still in its original element. Mr. Bragman was one of the nicest men in the old neighborhood. Everytime you walk in, he would offer you a free taste of the meat. He always shared old stories of the holocaust and how he and his family survived. His son manages the store these days.
When I think of old Newark I think of the old resturants I loved in Newark But out of the resturants of the past and present bragman's always been the number 1 sandwich spot that will never lose its taste they make the best Deli sandwiches in the world. My favorite sandwich is the Janice special.
