Overpriced, poor customer service. Good advice asked the price of specials. Especially if you use a coupon. I felt they upped the price of the specials to cover the coupon. 38.50 and32.5 was the price of not that great fish dinners. Dinner for four was 2.5 hours.
Go at our own pocket book risk.
I have been going to La Fortuna for many years and have never been disappointed. I have found that when you want a place to treat you like you are someone special, this is the type of place you try real hard to find. The food is FRESH and prepared to order, nothing fast or frozen. The restaurant is clean and the service is very attentive and friendly.
Last night, my wife and I went. She ordered stuffed salmon, I ordered osso bucco. We couldn't have asked for anything better, more well prepared or delicious.
The owner/chef, Michael, came over to us to make sure everything was satisfactory. The waitress did the same several times. Food was served within a very reasonable time and we were not at all rushed. In fact, everything was just so.
I have recommended this place to friends for many years, and would continue to do so. BUT, one word of caution. If you are more accustomed to eating at McDonald's or any other fast food place, if you don't appreciate fine dining in a nice atmosphere, or if you are in a hurry and just want to pick up something fast and cheap, don't go here. Go when you have the time to savor something special and you want to feel like you have gone out for an evening. Go there when frozen food or mass produced orders just won't cut it. Go when you want your dinner done right by someone who knows how.
You won't be disappointed.

I have been a regular customer at LaFortuna for many years so naturally when I got married last year my husband and I chose LaFortuna for our 100 guests. Both my husband and I are corporate travelers and have travelled around the country enjoying fine dining but we have yet to find the Italian cuisine that we enjoy at LaFortuna. We were shocked to read some of the negative reviews on this site and although I have never written a review myself I felt compelled to talk about our positive experience. Michael Jr., as we call him, was in charge of our wedding. His professionalism from our first meeting made us feel secure that we could trust him with our most important day. He was organized and provided great ideas to help be part of our experience. Our wedding was perfect! It was a beautiful outdoor ceremony and our reception was perfect! The staff was attentive, professional and friendly to everyone. We wanted for nothing. The food was magnificent. Our dinners had always been delicious and the chef did not disappoint for our big day. Our guests are still raving about the food. The portions were more than sufficient and every time we looked up there was more food. The ambience is always welcoming and our wedding day was no different. We continue to go to LaFortuna for fine dining and would recommend LaFortuna for anyone who enjoys a meal cooked to perfection or anyone who is planning a wedding. This is one place you need to try yourself and I promise you will not be disappointed.
I have been eating at La Fortuna as a regular customer for over 25 years.
I love their food and adore their chef Michael. I am not able to go as often as in past years but the 5 or 6 times a year when I do dine there, I am never disappointed. The kitchen will prepare any dish I ask for (provided they are not packed) and they make it to perfection. La Fortuna has remained my favorite restaurant in northern Fairfield. I am very surprised that there are even slightly disappointed clients.
I have never been to an affair there but have had my daughters wedding rehearsal party there. All 23 guests were pleased. I have been there on New Years Eve with a dozen friends and again we had great food and a fun time.
I always have a seafood dish, as I do not eat red or white meat. I will always have swordfish or tuna if it is available and it is consistantly prepared exactly as I request. Off the menu it would either be shrimp fra diavlo or parmagiana or sometimes the lobster ravioli.
This is not to say that every dish is absolutely perfect but it is always great or they would gladly bring me another dish.
In all, I have probably dined there very close to 100 times. I have gone to many restaurants only once or perhaps 3 times before I give up and move on. So again, I am mystified by the unfavorable comments.

We loved this restaurant some 30-35 years ago. It was probably the VERY BEST ITALIAN restaurant I'd ever experienced. In those days you even needed to be 'dressed'. A jacket and tie was required for men. When you walked in, the aromas coming from the kitchen were tantalizing. It was a little expensive but worth every bit of the price. Through the years, raising a family became very expensive and therefore few opportunities afforded us to travel to Bethel. We did however have the opportunity several years to go back, anticipating the same wonderful flavors we'd experienced so many years earlier. Some friends had said that La Fortuna was their favorite restaurant. What a disappointment!!!!!!!! These younger people have no idea what really good food is!!! The food was anything you can get in any run-of the-mill decent Italian restaurant. We, naturally, were really dressed up, and everyone else had jeans on. No great aromas upon entering, etc. What happend to the original owners/chefs. We had heard that originally the owners/chefs were a married couple, one being Italian, the other, Portugese. These two cultures, meshed together their wonderful cuisines and......wha-laa. WHAT HAPPENED???????
I have been to LaFortuna off and on for several years. Have never been really impressed with the place, in fact, I have been disappointed several times. Last night I attended a retirement dinner --- it was $38.00 per person (dinner only - not including drinks). We were served an appetizer which was just one very small piece of bruchetta per person. Next came a very plain small salad. Dinner was served Buffet style – Waitstaff served the food on our plates. They gave us very stingy amounts … a small scoop of pasta, and small amounts of veal, chicken, and a small portion of stuffed salmon that was no bigger than a small stuffed clam. When some of the men went up to get seconds, there was none. Our drink order was taken when we first arrived, but no one came back to take refill orders until it was almost time for desert, an hour and a half later. And, desert … what can I say? There were three tiny little pieces each of something chocolate, cheesecake(?) and stale gingerbread …. Those three pieces did not even equal 1/8 of a piece of pie. No one was asked if they wanted a second cup of coffee. One thing that I can complement the restaurant on was that they kept filling up the water glasses frequently … probably so that none of us would go home feeling hungry. Also, there were complaints from one table that their waiter was rude, even going so far as to tell someone that they used the wrong plate for something. Believe me …. I won’t be recommending this place to anyone, or going there again myself.
