The Village Restaurant
Fans say "every neighborhood needs a local hangout" like this Litchfield "tradition" which offers "dependable, hearty" American pub grub and "more ambitious, upscale dishes" in a "hopping bar area" and "cozy dining room." The staff "tries hard to please." Defenders insist the "fair fare at fair prices."
Food was ill-prepared: the truffle ravioli was hard around the edges and the breading of the veal cutlet was burnt. Not sure it was, truly, veal, either.
My daughter, who is a waitress, said our server had a bad attitude and recommend a small tip. Over-priced for what it has to offer. It disappointed our expectations and we will not be back.
Three women went into the restaurant with the intention of a long visit and relaxing for Mother's Day, After asking around of what would be a good place, and hearing that The Village was cute, good food, not too pricey, friendly, we chose to go there. These people who advised us must have had a better experience there than we did, or are the eat-and-run type, which is what it seemed the restaurant preferred. We went early so it would not be crowded. We let the waitress know that we planned to stay a while and talk over wine and food, and she said that was fine.
We felt pushed to order. The food was good, but certainly not great.
We ordered wine, our meal, then dessert and coffee. The dessert did not come. We wanted doggie bags, and the waitress did not bring one of them. We had the waitress coming back to the table several times while we had our coffee, seeming to imply, but not saying, that our time was up.
As we were waiting to pay with the credit card sitting on the table, a man (we are assuming the owner or manager) came to our table quite distraught, pointing to his watch, and telling us in angry tones that we had been there too long, and they had other people waiting for our table, and would we please leave.
We were not being noisy or annoying to others, We were not rude. We spent $200 between the three of us for our meal, beverages, and tip (that's pricey in my book), and were on our way out anyway.
You have lost three potential return customers. We are not impressed that you are on the Litchfield green. We ARE impressed with the medium quality food, service, and POOR treatment, and will not go back. We will also let others in the area know of our treatment there.
Never disappointed when dining at the Village! We had a quick lunch on the day of the house tour with a scrumptious Reuben sandwich and freshly brewed ice tea. In spite of the very busy conditions, the service from Holly was perfect.
I love when I go into the Village there is always someone to greet you with a smile on their face. The food is outstanding and the place is extremely clean. You can tell the owners really care. Anytime we go in the place it is always packed! A treasure to have in our small town. Keep up the good work!
The VIllage has always been a great place to eat and socialize with friends. But lately, it is evident that there has been changes in the kitchen, that improve the menu, and quality of the food. The weekly specials are creative and are worth every penny. The staff is always courteous, and eager to please. Everyone is always polite and making sure your dining experience is pleaseant. Can't wait till next week!!
The waiting staff here give a really warm and happy welcome to their guests. Their attentiveness to service throughout the meal was exemplary. We enjoyed all the dishes that we ordered throughout a happy and friendly evening.
my family and i have eaten at the village for years.in the last 5 years it was the gem of litchfield.the food was outstanding, but in the last two visits this fall, the food has been awful.the portions are tiny and the food flavorless.my children would look for the chef with the cowboy hat and knew the food would be great.he hasn't been seen in our last couple of dining experences and it is evident.the service was rushed and the hostess was rude to the point of mean.we won't be back.the village has lost it's charm
